Race fever, that is! I just signed up for my second half marathon, the ODDyssey Half Marathon in Philadelphia on May 29! I loved the feeling of accomplishment I had after Sunday’s race, and I want to try again in (hopefully) more ideal running conditions. Plus, I’ll have way more flexibility to train once I get home in a week, so I’m excited to see if I can beat my last time (my official time for Sunday’s race was 1:59:22). I also registered my mom and I for a women’s 5k on Mother’s Day, just for fun J
I woke up this morning with a much less stuffy nose, but a wonderful sore throat in its place. Breakfast was a bowl of Fiber One with a sliced banana and almond milk:
Cardio was still out of the question given my difficulty breathing like a normal person, but I was itching for some movement, so I went to a yoga class at my gym. Nothing too intense, but it felt good to really stretch out my legs. I’m not much of a yoga girl, but every once in awhile it’s nice to relax with. I made sure to disinfect the heck out of my mat afterwards, don’t worry!
My lunch was a favorite- OIAJ!
½ c oats, 1 c almond milk, 1 scoop NutriBiotic chocolate rice protein powder, 2 T chia seeds, 2 T flax seeds, mashed banana and the remnants of WCW (~2-3 T?)
Never disappoints. I also had some carrots with hummus and an apple. Afternoon snacks:
Roasted sunflower seeds and a Luna Peanut Butter Cookie bar
I had a bit of a disagreement with a substitute teacher in one of my classes this afternoon. I won’t go into it, but suffice to say that I hate when professors expound potentially insulting theories just because they can. It takes a lot to ruffle my feathers, especially when it comes to authority figures, but it was one of the few times I’ve actually been offended by what a teacher has to say. I tried not to let it bother me, since it’s just a sub and I’ll probably never see her again!
Dinner was packed with veggies- I was craving them!
Lettuce, tomato and humnut sauce on a Tumaro’s honey wheat wrap; extra tomato plus nutritional yeast topped broc on the side
I also picked up a container of organic strawberries on the way home. They were amazingly huge and juicy (TWSS), and so sweet that I didn’t bother to add chocolate sauce! I still managed to get my chocolate quota in with some Endangered Species dark chocolate with blueberries, though:
Fruit + chocolate is the perfect distraction from finals studying…which I must get back to…now. Bonne nuit, mes belles!
Yoga…thoughts? I know the blogworld is full of yoginis and cardio lovers alike, so tell me why you love it/could do without it!

honestly, i really WANT to love yoga because others swear by it, but for the life of me i CANT get into it...maybe ill read everyone elses responses and get inspired?
I pretty much love hot yoga most, I feel the best the next morning and sleep so well! I love that endangered species dark chocolate, mmm.
I love yoga. I go about twice a week. I try to do power yoga classes, but the occasional slow flow class is great too.
I love Endangered Species choco!
As far as yoga, it really depends on the instructor for me. Sometimes I leave feeling happy and relaxed, and other times I'm just frustrated that I wasn't flexible enough to do all the moves! I'm definitely more of a cardio person.
So glad you are feeling better!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah for having a running fever and not a real fever!! U scared me for a second!!! Congrats on signing up for another race!!!!
Loving the veggie full dinner! I never get sick of veggies!!!!!!
Yum strawberries and chocolate!! Now thats the perfect dessert!!!
Love ya girl!!
SOrry your sub teacher was a jerk !! Boo!!
I'm kind of like Elise-- I try to love yoga, but it's kind of hard for me to get into it. I haven't found a class or studio in my town that I particularly love, so that makes it hard!
i heart yoga. hot, bikram, power vinyasa, yin... love it all.
I'm glad you are feeling slightly better!! I've only tried yoga a couple of times so I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I really want to try bikram yoga though!!!
I'm sorry about the teacher! I hate things like that. I had a bio professor one year who was an athiest and pretty much went out of his way to insult anyone who believed in God. It was AWFUL. Sometimes I think they give professors a bit TOO much freedom in what they do and say.
Mmm fresh strawberries!! Love it!
Your wrap looks so good!!
And Yoga... I have to be in the mood! It is hard for me to be that quiet for that long :) However, I do feel great when I do it
i have only done hot yoga. i did it for 1 month last summer.... and loved it!!
i am really intimidated to try out one of the yoga classes offered by the gym. maybe i will get over it sometime!
keep feeling better girl :)
I love yoga. At this point in my life, I'd rather do yoga then spend time lifting weights in the gym. Yoga is the best benefit if you do it consistently (for me this is about four to five days a week) and while I enjoy it best when I am in a class I love the convenience and freedom of podcasts, also the easiest way to try new instructors or styles.
Can't wait to do a podcast tomorrow morning!
Every-time I do yoga my body feels soo good! But like you I am not a yoga girl, I wish I did it a lot more. Guess my lack of flexibility is the biggest obstacle I have with Yoga, I know that the more time you put into it the more flexible you will get but I am so impatient!!!
Glad to hear you are feeling better girl!
Love ya!
xoxo
You know what I just had as a procrastinatory snack? Fruit and chocolate...
I've been making myself go to at least 1 yoga class a week, and I have to say, I am so glad I'm doing it regularly. I feel so much better all the time, poses are easier, and I love doing some other kind of physical activity once in a while. Plus there are some cute boys who have started coming to the Tuesday classes.
I've never formally taken a yoga class, so I'd have to say that cardio trumps it.
And bummer about the sub; I can see a teacher voicing a strong opinion, but a substitute? I think they're just supposed to follow the teacher's plan, not theirs...
Keep feeling better!
Oh man, I wish my pb jars were empty! I want some oats in a jar!
I love yoga, I just love to connect with myself both physically and spiritually and move in a way my body doesn't move in every day life.
I need to make some oats in a jar too! Always looks so good. Where do you get your chia seeds?
Glad you got to do some yoga...always feels great to get a good stretch in. Congrats on signing up for your second half marathon!! You are going to do great!
I've taken classes that made me zone out completely and others that really energized me! I think it depends on the teacher you have. Hope you keep feeling better, girl!
gir l i WISH i could get more into yoga! i cant AT ALL! i wana do HOT YOGA! its so intense! hope you had a great day love <3
Hi love!!! So glad you're feeling better :-) And I KNEW you'd catch the RACING FEVER!!!!!
I love yoga. Especially if you're a runner (wink wink). You can totally avoid injures. I like to do it 1X per week. My favorites are Bikram (supa hot), Vinyasa, Power, and Ashtanga. All are great workouts and stretch you out like woah!!!!
Have a good night chica!! xoxox
I love yoga, especially the relaxed and bendy/ gumby-like feeling after an especially awesome practice. But sometimes I'm waay too up in my monkey brain to focus. And I have to stay mindful of not comparing with anyone else or myself before, etc. There's a saying that "Bring your shit into yoga, and your yoga is shit." Definitely true!

Just to clarify, by before I meant how I did a week/month/year before, not like prepping myself in advance for a session. ;)
hot yoga is the best....my favorite by far!! ps. that white chocolate dream PB is my fav!!! So good!
I used to go to a yoga studio in Hawaii for free in exchange for cleaning afterward. It was awesome. It was a small studio in a surfer mom's home with small classes. I loved it. Unfortunately, I can't afford yoga on a regular basis and there are no yoga studios near me offering work study programs (and I tried calling around). So I make the occasional class when I can, and otherwise use my mat every once in a while at home!
Feel better!
I'm not a yoga gal! I've done pilates and liked it but no yoga! Very exciting about the race- nice to have something to look forward to/work towards!
Yoga is good. I have no strong opinions either way on it.
I am so happy that local strawberries are almost back in season! It makes me wonder how I put up with the ones available in winter.
Fruit and chocolate has been the subject of my cravings recently as well...sounds like we're out for some suga lovin'!
Yoga...hmmm...I signed up for a yoga PE class next semester, I've never taken an actual yoga class, it looks like it'll be calming though and EVERYONE nowadays seems to be obsessed with it.
Have a happy thursday :)
I think it's amazing you are running a race with your mom! I'm a huge fan of the endangered species chocolate, but I haven't had the blueberry yet. It's on my Whole Foods list now!
Congrats on the half marathon!! 2 hours is really good :D (I'm still catching up on posts).
I'm curious as to what this subsititute teacher said lol. I love yoga because it's great for stretching and it's really relaxing :D
I used to be a cardio lover. Well, at least I *thought* I was. I don't want to say that I was "obsessed" with cardio, but I definitely did it a lot of times out of feeling like I was obligated to. Sure, I still love a good, vigorous cardio workout, but I've been staying away from it lately. I want to re-focus my view of cardio, which before was all about burning calories. So lately I've been spending more time on yoga and pilates, and I absolutely LOVE it. I'm definitely more passionate about those than I was with cardio. But like I said, I don't think I'll ever give up on cardio completely!
haha the title of the post made me thing of "Beiber Fever" as in Justin Beiber..it seems as though everyone has it hahaha
good to know its race fever :) congrats on signing up for the half marathong, girl! you will do so amazing!!
yoa?! ehh I dont really do it and know its good for me, but I just don't do it that often! i like to SWEAT!
I'm such a Yoga girl!! Check out my post here on why I love it

And let me know if you ever want to go to a class!!
I love cardio because I actually feel more relaxed yet energized after. Yoga just doesn't give me that feel.
When I first tried yoga, I really hated it; it felt too slow and boring, and some of the poses made me feel really weak. But because it was the only real exercise I was "allowed" to do, I stuck to it and the more I did it, the more I fell in love with it. I love the flexibility it gives me, and I love how it's able to relax me. It also made me more in tune with my body and made me appreciate my body for it's strength.
That's super exciting about your next race! Good luck with the training!
Aww I hope the sore throat doesn't linger! Feel better!
Your eats still look great though! You're rocking the strawberries and I want some fresh ones so badly. I've been eating a lot of frozen ones lately, but nothing beats fresh!
I do adore yoga, but I can never seem to stick with it!
Congrats on signing up for another half marathon, that is awesome! I wanted to thank you for your sweet comment on my blog today, it really brightened my day :)
I'm kinda like you, I don't really do yoga much but sometimes its nice to just stretch out. In the end I'll take cardio over yoga any day though.
Glad you're feeling better!

3 things I want to tell you...
ahhh that chocolate looks amazing!!
I read the post on your half marathon..girl your fast!!! Great job.
Yoga is so wonderful, makes you feel like a noodle lol!
Have a fantabulous weekend!
I really love yoga - it's done wonders for my flexibility and strength! I just wish I could start doing it at home, on my own. I've only done that once or twice - and yet I've tried a bunch of times! I just get bored when I do it on my own!
