Bonsoir mes belles! I hope you’ve all had a lovely Sunday! As much as I hate the end of the weekend, I always remind myself that I’m one weekend closer to SUMMER!! Always a good reason to keep working J
Last night I ended up falling into bed a few minutes after posting, and I slept like a rock until 7. 9 hours? I’ll take it. I had a bowl of cereal while working on the Google Reader:
Fiber One, Nature’s Path Mesa Sunrise, sliced banana and almond milk
A bit later, I headed to church for an 8:30 service. It’s been way too long since I’ve been, so it was good to take awhile out of my day to focus on what’s REALLY important. I left feeling happy and calm, and headed to the gym a bit later for an arms and ab workout! I spent a quick half an hour there, then came home for a VERY early lunch:
Sunflower seed butter on French Meadow Bakery Women’s bread
Carrots and hummus
Gala apple
I had plans to meet Mike early in the afternoon for a run in Central Park, so I wanted to keep lunch simple, light and easily digestible! I also snacked on a banana bread flavored Larabar before my run:
This is definitely one of the most underrated Lara flavors out there! It only has three ingredients- dates, almonds and bananas- and has an awesome chewy texture that tastes just like banana bread. Already one of my new favorite flavors!
Mike’s and my six miler was tough!! I’ve just realized that I haven’t been training on hills, which is NOT good since the race course is FULL of them! Mike did a great job of encouraging me through them, but I was definitely not a happy camper and will fully admit to getting a little snippy with him towards the end! Thankfully, he put up with my shenanigans and we finished 6 miles in 51:52, which I was pleased with for the amount of gargantuan hills! I finally figured out how to get my splits on the Garmy:
Mile 1: 7:52
Mile 2: 8:07
Mile 3: 8:59 (big hill)
Mile 4: 9:34 (even bigger hill!)
Mile 5: 8:57
Mile 6: 8:24
After a subway ride, produce stop and shower, I was hangry for some dinner (at 5pm…clearly, I’m 20 going on 90). I was craving veggies like no one’s business, so I made a salad beast:
Gardein Marinara chick’n breast, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and humnut sauce (for those of you who have asked, humnut is just an equal mix of hummus, nutritional yeast and water- I used 3T of each!)
I also had an unpictured Ezekiel tortilla on the side, dipped in massive quantities of salsa. Dessert was two whole pints of sliced fresh strawberries (on sale- yay!), and half a bar of Endangered Species dark chocolate with blueberries (also on sale- I lucked out!):
I’m currently snacking on clementines as well. I’m definitely in a produce mood today! Hope you all have wonderful Mondays loves!
To all your runners out there, what’s the best way to get used to hills? I know training on them is essential, but any tips for tackling them at first?
What time do you normally eat dinner? 6 is usually time for me!

I love that lara bar flavor-- tastes just like banana bread!
I'm a six o'clocker as well, even though it makes me feel like an old lady :-)
You are one speedy lady! Good work! The best way I've found to deal with hills is to run on my toes and keep my knees high. I don't take my FULL stride, but instead take smaller, shorter steps. It helps me a lot. Good luck!
Also, I usually don't get home until after 6, so dinner is usually around 7 or 7:30, but on the weekends it's much earlier. :-)
Haha on Sundays I get hungry for dinner at like 3pm! I'm lucky if I can hold out til 4 :)
During the week I usually pack a dinner and eat it when I get to class at 5. I used to wait til after class at 7:30ish but then having to wait to digest I couldn't workout til like 8:30 and with a bed time of ...9 (hey, I get up early!!) it was not working out!
One weekend closer to summer; I never thought of it like that... great positive approach :)
6 is my dinner time as well. Sometimes earlier if hunger strikes. Gosh... I feel so old.
Hope you're enjoying a relaxing Sunday night, hun <3
I have never been able to find that larabar flavor which is so depressing because I've heard nothing but rave reviews! Perhaps I'll have to order some!!
ahh only a few more weeks until summer. Can't come soon enough!
nighty night my love <3
I LOVE that larabar! i microwave it for even BETTER TASTINESS!
Well done on the run! I train hills in moderation. I usually speed up on the hills to get them over with - the faster you get up the hill, the sooner the pain is over. I make sure to incorporate a hill at the end of my run too - always harder when you are exhausted.
usually for hills I either run the dunes at the beach and thats the main part of my workout, or I pick the biggest baddest hill near me and just run up and down that thing like crazy. Sounds stupid but it works lol hope you had a great weekend!!
Hooray for an amazing night of sleep!!
Dinner's somewhere between 6 and 9...depending on my schedule. I'm not much of a hill lover. Honestly, I usually take a route with a lot of down hills. Have a good night!
nana bread lara? WTF where have I been ??!! I never buy them b/c I figure i can make them however i suck at adding bananas to things b/c i always end up with slop and then make banana muffins LOL Raw batter and nanas dont mix well. For me :)
Hills. You just bitch and moan and in about a month, they get easier :)
We eat dinner around 8pm each night, by the time I get home from work and exercise then get to cooking it's late! I used to have a hard time with late dinners and eat alot earlier, but with our work schedules this is what works for us. And what's weird is that now I actually prefer a later meal & hate to eat earlier, so I think my body has just adjusted?
I eat dinner at a different time every day. I prefer earlier the better but sometimes with my schedule it is later than I would like.
In terms of running up hill...I have never been good, but take it slow and you will get better with them.
Ugh, hills can be the death of me at times...but I try to include them in my runs as often as possible. Plus anything I run from my apartment I have to face the HUGE hill out of my complex, so I guess just repetition helps them not seem so bad!
Have a great week girl!
When I ran, there was this HUGE hill that was in the route I always took. At first I always dreaded it but then I just decided, I'm going to conquer this darn hill! And I did. At first I could barely run up it and would have to take breaks but eventually I could run up the whole thing and I was SO PROUD and so happy about that. The best hill tip I ever got was to almost run on your toes up the hill. It sounds weird but it really works, it makes it so much easier!! And never look down, always keep looking straight ahead. Good luck with the hills, you can conquer them! And they are realllly good at firming up certain places ;)
You got really lucky with the chocolate and the strawberries!!! I've been eating TONS of strawberries all day as I have a gallon in my kitchen. I just can't resist!! And I need to try that LaraBar flavor! I like some and I hate some, I find they are hit or miss for me. My favorite is the PB & J!
And I'm old too, I eat dinner around 6. And staying up to midnight is way late for me. I'm way old before my time...
Have a great Monday!
Love ya girl!
i think that one and the apple pie are the only larabars i'll really eat...i don't like the other ones much.
and to tackle hills you just have to keep running them...it's all about practice!
6pm is the time I have my afternoon snack...I usually eat around 9pm. Heh.
Gosh, you are one speedy runner!
congrats with getting through your difficult run, girl! it's the journey, not the result, that truly matters and your dedication to overcoming challenges represents that.
the blueberry dark chocolate and strawberries made it all worth it. i've been wanting to try that flavor for AGES :)!
have a lovely day!
xox
Love produce-filled days ;)
Those are some good splits, even with the hills, you should be proud!
Dinner time varies for me... sometimes 6 (it's served at 5:30 at my sorority) but I usually like to have a snack and eat later... I"m eating dinner right now and its 8:30 haha :] !
I've never tried the banana larabar... i think it's because i regularly make banana bread so I don't really crave the flavor?
I actually love running up hills! I'm always telling myself "Why did you think you enjoy this??" as i'm running up them but I'm always excited/happy before and after ;)
As for dinner, I usually eat it around 8. Sometimes a bit earlier, and definitely quite a few times later ;)
HEY Girlie!!
YUM I hear you on the PRODUCE-lovin!! I've been in a veggie&fruit mood for a week now! the local/organic spring produce has been getting fresher and cheaper each week...another reason I LOVE the early summer days!
I usually eat dinner at 6 too!..my tum never fails to start growling around 5:30-ish and it takes me about half an hour to get din din together.
I HEAR YOU on the HILLS!! ughhh today I ran a 12k that was FULL of them. I train on HILLS though so I am used to them. Honestly there is NO secret, or tactic to take with them...you just HAVE to train on them if you want to CONQUER them! hehe! I know you can do it chica, keep up the hard work!
I hope you have a great start to your week!
~xoxo!
I also got a ton of fresh produce this weekend- I'm so excited all the good fruits are in season!
I have dinner at about 8 on the weekdays because of my crazy schedule, but I usually eat a snack at 5:00 or so to hold me over. On weekends, it varies depending on what I do! Today I ate at 4:30!
Loving that salad!! I have been doing big salads alot for dinner : ) they make me happy!!!!
So great you and Mike had an awesome run!! Its always fun to run with someone, especially your lover : )
Banana bread larabar sounds good!!! Yum!!!!!!
Have a great monday girl!! Thank you again so much for the wonderful package !!!!!
Six for me too! Though in the evenings I'm rarely hungry, so I'm sure it's become more a thing of habit.
Banana bread is one of my favorite LARABAR flavors, it always reminds me of my grandma's banana bread, I LOVE it!!
I have 2 more weeks til' my summer begins, I can't wait!!
My dinner is always around 8 o' clock no later than that, if I eat too early I get hungry again before bedtime haha!
Ugh that stupid hill in Central Park! When I was in high school, my cross-country coach taught us to do hills like this: look straight ahead, rather than up to the top of the hill. Also, when you get to the top, take three big strides so you can get back to your normal pace. It also helps me to do the same hill lots of times, so I know what's coming! But it never gets easy...
Oh goodness I hate hills, but most of my regular running routes incorporate them. Just try to find areas (most of them are in middle and upper Manhattan, I guess) with hills and run there. That dessert -- strawberries and dark chocolate -- sounds like such a perfect summer snack! Happy Monday!
bahh hills! sadly I have no words of wisdom for you bc I HATE hills! the bset way that I tackle them is just to put on a good song and power through it! get doen with it faster, than running nice and slow up the hill! usually at the top its flat or a bit of a downhill anyways :) think of it as an accomplishment!!
i LOVE the banana bread larabar! that andapplepie are SO good!
I live in the flattest area ever. I'm not even sure where to go to encounter a hill.
The best way for me to conquer hills is not to be afraid of them. I used to dread hills when I knew they were coming up. What was I afraid of? I think it was that I thought I might have to walk! I have learned that the best way to get up them is to lean forward, and take smaller, faster steps (shortened stride). There are two quotes that help me get up them faster as well...
1. "Small strokes fell great oaks"
and
2. "I eat hills for breakfast!"
I like the way you think. Summer is getting so close!
I try to eat dinner around 7, but that usually means I have a snack or two between lunch and then.
I suggest short quick steps for hills.
What makes the bread "womens" bread? Interesting..
Fresh, delicious, nutritious is all I have to say about your food! You had some luscious eats, my love! I am so into the fresh strawberries lately. Nothing is quite as satisfying as those sweet little red berries!
I usually eat at 7ish! But I have been known to do an early bird special at 5! I am 84.
My first ever half marathon was in Austin, TX aka hill country. The first 3 miles and last 3 miles were straight up hills (mountains to a girl who grew up in northern Indiana). I almost died. Before my next race I made sure to incorporate at least one day of serious incline work on the treadmill.
I eat dinner at 5 on the dot. I have so much homework to do that this is the only time I can eat dinner with my hubby.
Awesome job on the hills!
AWESOME RUN!!! :-)
I have a huuuge hill near my apt and I like to run up it several times in a row for a hill wkout.
I agree with the Banana Bread Larabars! Those and coconut creme pie are my fav!!!
I usually eat around 8-8:30. It's a little late but I'm usually in Scienceland until 7ish...
Have a great day!!! xoxox <3
I'm a little worn out just reading about your day!
I normally eat at 7 or 7:30!
I can't imagine running hills - eek! Loved your "big hill" & "even bigger hill" LOL - great times regardless!
Ah, I've never tried the Banana Bread flavor! It sound phenom...I'll have to start tracking that down.
I usually eat dinner around 6 these days. I used to (and actually prefer) eating around 7 or 8, but since my schedule changed so did my meal times. I'll probably go back to a later dinner when summer rolls around since it stays light out so late!
I want to start timing my miles too. And could use some hill advice!
I like my dinners at 7. I get out of work at 6:30, so as soon as I get home Im in the kitchen!
We usually eat dinner at all different times. I work until 8 most nights so if we arent eating alone we are either eating early or late.
