Hello bloggies! I’m posting in a hurry before heading off to my friend’s 21st birthday party. She’s the first of the friends I graduated with to hit the milestone, so it should be fun!
Breakfast this morning was the standard cereal bowl with TJ’s High Fiber cereal, frozen blueberries and chocolate almond milk:
Today’s workout was 45 minutes of intervals on the elliptical while watching the latest DVR episodes of The City and The Hills. Recording my favorite (trashy) shows for the elliptical always gives me something to look forward to!
For lunch, I had plans to have a picnic with a few of my friends from high school at Valley Forge Park. I had an apple with Maranatha almond butter to hold me over during the drive:
And I packed a salad beast with spinach, carrots, cucumber, tomato, onion, falafel balls, and mustard, plus a sliced mango (I also had some tortilla chips and salsa that my friend brought):
Unfortunately, I got lost on the way to my friend’s house when Mapquest gave me directions to the wrong street, so I was forty-five minutes late in meeting them L Can you believe that in nearly four years of driving, I’ve never really gotten lost? I usually have a really good sense of direction, so I was definitely irritated! They eventually had to drive to come find me before we headed over to the park.
Our picnic was a lot of fun; it’s always good to catch up with old friends. I’ve known these girls since I was in sixth grade! I think it’s interesting that childhood friends are often the ones we have the closest bonds with. After all, a lot of the time our parents choose these friends for us, and it’s inevitable that our personalities will change as we get older. There’s something special about growing up with someone- even if you take completely different paths, you’ve seen each other in your worst phases, and there’s a sort of unconditional love and understanding that goes along with that. Looking back at pictures of the chipmunk-cheeked, uber-nerdy and painfully shy preteen that I was, I’m lucky they stuck around J
There were four of us, so we had to take turns taking the picture!
After over two hours of chatting, I headed home. Dinner was small and basic, since I know there will be plenty of food at the party tonight:
Naturally Nutty vanilla almond butter on millet bread with an apple and a few squares of espresso dark chocolate
The dark chocolate was my favorite flavor of Newman's Own chocolate yet!! Rich but not overpowering, with ground espresso beans throughout. Perfect for a pick me up before a night out!
I’m bringing Skinny Bitch’s vegan dream bars with me- I’ll post the recipe tomorrow if they’re well received! Hope you all have a fun-filled Friday!
How’s your sense of direction? Do you get lost easily, or can you figure your way out of anything? I’m usually great at figuring out where I’m going, but once you’re lost on back country roads, it’s tough to get back on track!
Do you still keep in touch with friends from childhood? Who do you consider your “oldest friend”? Most of my friends date from middle school and back, but my oldest friend is my parents’ best friends’ daughter- our birthdays are exactly a month apart, and we’ve known each other since we were born!

You look adorable in the dress! Sounds like a lot of fun with old friends! Can't go wrong with naturally nutty vanilla almond butter!
I am not the best at directions and because I do a lot of shopping for my job, I tend to really rely on a gps since I don't know how to go from one random store to another quickly.
Most of my best friends are from high school since I moved to MI then but I still have a few best friends from NY and one from CA. We all are spread so far apart these days though so it is hard to see each other that often. Honestly, my sister and one of my girl cousins are best friends too.
Aww what a great picnic! My bestie and I have been palsies since seventh grade when I came to her (our) school! Crazy! Have fun at the party!
I have a ridiculous sense of direction. I dont know why or how but I always have a sense of my cardinal directions (N,E,S,W).
I think I need to try the mustard for salad dressing someday! I do love some spicy brown mustard so why not as a salad dressing?
I like to think I had a good sense of direction. Even if I feel like I'm lost, I'm really stubborn and there's a 5% chance I'd ask for directions lol
I love your dress! Have fun at the party :D
You look so cute in that dress!! And I love that dinner- sweet food always wins in my book!
Looks like such a fun day! Bummer about getting lost, but at least you still had a good time together. I'm good at following directions and finding my way, but if I'm just told to go somewhere without having stuff written down, I'm sure to get lost. I can hardly get around the town I work in! haha.
Hope you have a great time tonight, sounds like a blast!
Oh, and I definitely still have the strongest ties to my gradeschool friends. I still stay in good contact with a girl I've known since kindergarten. Not as much recently since we go to different colleges and such - but when we're both home we try to go riding together at least a couple times :)
I hate relying on MapQuest! It always gets me lost! I'm pretty good with directions...I'm very good at remembering where I park my car for some reason! Hope your night goes well!
HEY BEAUTIFUL!
i am obsessed with YOU IN THAT DRESS! you look BEAUTIFUL!! and im a terrible direction gal..my gps is my life saver when it comes to that!
My best friend and I have been friends since we were 5. We are TOTALLY different now but we have remained best friends throughout all these years. I love her like a sister!
And I LOVE THAT DRESS!! Katie is right, you are GORGEOUS!!!
The picnic sounds like fun too! I have ZERO sense of direction so I feel you on the getting lost :)
Have fun at the party! Love you girl!
Happy 21st to your friend, it IS a milestone! I don't get lost easily, and I don't own a GPS either! I keep in touch with most of my childhood friends - what would we do without Facebook?!
Cute dress!!! Mapquest gave me such bad directions one time that a two hour drive took four. I was so upset. I really have a good sense of direction.
ha ha i have ZERO sense of direction. none! it's so bad :( hahah
i hope it comes to me one day...
anywho-
what brand of chocolate almond milk do you get? it looks tasty, i want to get some!!
-xoxoLisa
Have fun at the party! I'm anxious to see those bars (because I too read Skinny Bitch and contemplated about making them, lol)!
I have a very poor sense of direction. I couldn't tell you north, from south, from east, from west if my life depended on it! haha
OMG... Lori and I always get lost, haha. But then we feel we have a better understanding of the area, and always find short cuts. I tend to go by landmarks, is it bad that I do not really pay attention to street names??
Glad you had a great time!
I love your dress -- it looks like such a sunny, fun day in the park! I'm jealous as it's been raining all day here :(
oldest friend and i have known each other since about age 6. she is actually the only friend from childhood i talk to on the phone.. i dont count "wall posts" from random childhood FB friends as my true "friends" that i would really "talk to" about real issues in life :)
sense of direction. excellent. it has to be. scott's sucks LOL
so happy you had a lovely day and i love the hills/city too!
ooh chocolate almond milk! never had that. love your dress. my sense of direction is so off. i can get lost pretttttty easily.
I love the dress in the center: any idea where I can get one!? I'm seriously in love
Katherine
wow I am obsessed with your dress!! so so cute!!
goodness isn't millet bread just the best for pb & J sammies? love it.
You look so cute!!!!
I have a terrible sense of direction; it's sort of sad actually! TomTom never steers me wrong, though ;)
Have a great weekend dear!!
I'm glad the picnic was fun, even if it took a while to get there haha. ;) I'm pretty bad with directions. Every time I drive to somewhere unfamiliar, my mom has to make sure to be by the phone to help me out if I get lost!!
Have fun at the party tonight! I hope everyone likes your bars!
A picnic with old friends sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon :) That's so awesome that you've been able to keep in touch with the girls you grew up with. I've lost touch with most of my childhood friends, unfortunately :( I would love to find them again, but I think a lot of them moved to different cities...
I'm pretty good with directions and finding places. The only time I really get lost is when I'm vacationing and looking for something in a different city. I completely agree that country roads can be confusing, but at least you were able to make it :)
21st birthday parties are the best. hope you had a blast!
i got lost everywhere. no matter how many times i've been there, i end up losing my way. it's really quite sad and very frustrating. but i just deal with it. pshhh.
I am only good with my city for some reason. Anything south of my city and I am a complete failure-ha!
My oldest friend dates back from my/his sophomore/freshman year. We have been such good friends and always remained close, regardless of the fact that our lives are tugging us both in opposite directions.
I can't wait to get a glimpse at those vegan bars!
Aww that sounds like such a good afternoon! :) I wish I kept in touch with more of my childhood friends. I do talk to a few still but not as many as I would like. My bestest moved a few months ago after having her baby, and I am SO excited beacuse she is coming back up to visit and go bridesmaid shopping next weekend!
Aww yay for picnics! What a pretty photo of you three! Can't wait for the dream bar photos- I've looked at the Skinny Bitch cookbook but I haven't tried anything from it.
Have fun at the party, Gabriela!
And what a appropriate questions...I just went to HK with an old friend of mine...we have not seen each other for a long time, but once we get together, we act like sisters! And lol, we spent 2 hours a day in HK being lost!
I LOVE your dress!!! You look adorable!!!!!
Love falafel too! Love making a big salad beast of lettuce, veggies, hummus and falafel. YUMMM!!
Have a great weekend and fun at your partaaay! XOXOX
That's awesome you keep in touch with your old friends! It's super hard to do that when everyone has such busy, different schedules!!
And omg i reallly like your dress, you look so pretty!
And it's funny because yesterday, my friends and I drove to Olive Garden and the GPS told us it was on the left, then we zoomed past it on the right and it took 20 minutes to get back to it because we were on the highway! haha (directions are so dumb! lol)
That dress is adorable. I'm sorry to hear you got lost! I've never been too mislead by Mapquest or Google Maps, and if I do it's a quick call to my sister, "Hilary, can you hop on a computer and figure out where I am?"
As for friends from childhood? Not so much. The people I spend the most time with are the girls I went to college with. It must be fun to stay connected to your middle school friends!
i get lost sooo easily. i need diagrams! i have 2 friends i still see regularly but most of us have lost touch, unfortunately.
awww yesterday was SUCH a gorgeous day for a picnic!! things like that with friends are always so much fun :) it's a good thang you made such a good snack to hold you over while you got lost haha ;)
have a fun weekend girl!
I have no sense of direction haha. Have fun at the 21st birthday celebration!!
How fun! Sorry about getting lost, though...there is nothing more frustrating or unnerving.
All of my friends are people that I have known since 1st grade. They are more like family than anything, and I feel really blessed to still have them in my life!
I absolutely love picnics and will probably go on one with Matt later :)
I tend to have a good sense of direction, but on my run yesterday I ended up leaving the University of Alabama campus and got lost which caused my to panic a little bit.....at least I could just turn around and go back the way I came, but I felt kind of isolated where I was running and didn't like it. Usually though I just trust my instinct of "turn this way" and can find what I'm looking for, even if I've only been there once before.
Aw I love picnics! My own sense of direction is rather fickle, sometimes I am spot on, others... well, you know ;) As for friends, I have a small handful from childhood but a lot of my current closests are from college. Hope you had a spectacular weekend, my love!
I absolutely love your dress! nd aww I remember when all my friends started turning twenty one - live it up! I hope you had a great time at the party!!
I have a great sense of direction...in New York. But usually I can find my way.
I have 2 friends that I've known since I was an absolute baby - one since I was a year old, the other since I was three, and we all share a birthday. I only see them once a year or once every few years, but they are my oldest friends and will be bridesmaids at my wedding.
Glad you had fun at the picnic. Those are fun! I really dislike driving places I have no idea where I'm going. Getting lost is no fun!
Picnics are so fun! Great dress. And I seriously have the worst sense of direction ever, it's pitiful. My best friend and I met in 2nd grade and still hang out just as much as we used to back in the day! Old friends are the best :)
OMG I LOVE your dress!!! Who is it? Where'd you get it? Can I borrow it?
OK, you don't have to answer all those Qs.
I have a horrible sense of direction, mostly when driving. If I'm on-foot, I'm solid, though. Ehhh, mildly solid.
I do still keep in touch with my bestie from high school, and we lived in the same neighborhood since we were beebees!
I have a HORRID sense of direction. But I'm very honest about my inability to tell north from south or my left from my right and am always ready to let someone else navigate or ask for directions. It's only embarrassing when I'm with other people. When I'm alone it's not a huge deal to laugh at myself for going around the same landmark four times. Well, as long as I'm not late.
I moved when I was in 5th grade, so I didn't get to cultivate those life-long friendships that so many people have. I'm not super close to people from home, but I've definitely found people that I hope are in my life forever here at school.
Can't wait to hear about your weekend!
I get lost going anywhere- like anywhere.
I love your dress- love all the colors on you.
I keep in touch with all my old friend- I feel like it's harder to make friends as we get older, so I rely on those relationships and it's fun to talk to people who know everything about me, like those who knew me before I discovered hair product :)
I can usually navigate directions pretty well, but sometimes mapquest just gives the most backward ways to go! I keep in touch with a few old friends, but I have one friend that no matter how long we go without seeing each other, when we meet again we can always find something to talk about!
Hope you had fun at the birthday party!!
Without my GPS, I would still be wandering around somewhere. I have NO sense of direction. Hahaha.
21sts are so much fun- have a good time!
