….the most productive thing you did all day was go to CVS for the sole purpose of buying shea butter and gum. I’ll go nuts if today’s agenda of nothingness is repeated for more than a few days, but after a semester of school hanging over your head whenever you try to relax, it was awesome to be a total veg and not feel an ounce of guilt about it J A lot of you asked what my summer plans are in your comments yesterday, and the answer is that they’re still in the works. I’m planning on doing an internship that I’m really excited about, but I want to make sure it’s set in stone before jinxing myself!
After yesterday’s overnight oats for breakfast, I was doubly excited for the usual this morning:
Fiber One, strawberries and almond milk
My nose and throat are STILL stuffed up, so I had to forego yet another run in favor of an easy elliptical sesh. I’m pretty sure this little cold is completely different from the one I had two weeks ago; since my symptoms cleared up for a few days, I think I just picked up another sickness while my immune system was still weak. I did a super easy hour (we’re talking level 1 resistance here, ha) while watching more of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, just to get myself moving a little.
I was craving something sweeter for lunch, so I made a coconut butter and fresh strawberry sammie on Food for Life millet bread. Last night I actually recommended this bread to a woman in the class who is GF- it’s so chewy, dense and delicious! I also had some grapes and overcooked asparagus (my daddyo forgot to watch them…oops!) to round out the meal:
The afternoon was spent doing a whole lot of nothing, which worked up a surprising appetite for a veggie-packed snack:
Cucumber, tomato and asparagus with Sabra hummus
To all you hummus lovers out there, I strongly suggest trying it with asparagus. Amaze.
I still had half a package of seitan left over from Sunday’s lunch, so for dinner I made an easy stir-fry with broccoli, EVOO and some Barilla tomato basil sauce. On the side I had some sweet potato fries with mustard for dipping:
This didn’t do too good a job of filling me up, so I also had a pear and a handful of nuts. Much better. Healthy fats always hit the spot J
Plus half this TJ’s bar, to get my chocolate fix:
Tonight I’m off to see the bestie, who just got home from college this evening. So excited to see her! Happy (almost) hump day, loves!
To all you runners out there: do you typically run with a cold? Physically, I feel fine- no headaches, achiness or fatigue- but it’s really tough for me to run with a cough and stuffy nose. Any tips? I’d like to keep up with my half training :/
How do you “know” it’s summer? Warm weather + no homework pretty much sums it up, in my opinion!

Lol-- sounds like you're enjoying summer to its fullest :-) Love it!
omg ive seriously done NOTHING today too!!!!!!!!!! im goin bananas! i even cleaned out my room and found all my old babysitters club books and nancy drews so i started reading them! lol
I'm getting bored of nothingness ALREADY. I'm just twiddling my thumbs these days waiting to walk across the grad stage! I saw my bestie immediately upon returning. They ARE the best :)
That sandwich sounds delicious. I bet it would be good with goat cheese. But..what is not good with goat cheese???
wanna send some "nothingness" over this way? I am running around barely enough time to breathe! I am super jealous :)
Seaking of sending, I am working on your package for your giveaway! Itll be on its way soon...promise!

Sounds like a PERFECT start to a great summer!!! And I know what you mean... a few days of doing nothing is really nice but it gets old after a bit.
The strawberries and coconut butter sounds GOOD! I almost bought some coconut butter today.. again. This is like the millionth time I've *almost* bought some.. need to just give in!
Oh I LOVE Harry Potter!!! SO MUCH! It's kinda sad.. I like Twilight but it just doesn't compare to HP..
Have fun with your friend! Seeing friends you haven't seen in a while is the BEST!
Love you girl!
What a great relaxing day. Have fun with the bestie, I saw mine last night! I think summer gets away from me now that I am out of school. The only time I really get to appreciate it is when I go to summer concerts or to my summer house on the vineyard...of course hot summer runs get me too.
Hmm, I try not to run if I can't breathe even though they usually say you are fine running if you are only sick from the chest up. I think you made a smart choice. As long as you are keeping your endurance up, you should be good. lovely eats per usual lady!
The first few days home from college I literally felt like I was going insane from doing nothing. And I found that I got into this vicious cycle of reading blogs, getting ideas, then eating! Eating a lottt. Luckily I have lots of time for the gym to balance it out! Lately I've had to give myself "to-dos" for each day so I don't feel completely worthless, it's kind of a joke though seeing as my biggest to-do today was to go to Lowe's and buy a stevia plant =P
Hiii beauty! Even today, I didn't go to my afternoon classes because I had such a bad headache I couldn't think or read or see very well, and I felt HUGELY guilty! So silly!
Summer equals family time, corn on the cob, grill scents, fur babies, sticky hot sunshine, watermelon, Trader Joe's Summer Brews, San Francisco (sorry, it is on the BRIZZAIN), flings, shorts, espadrilles, coral and pink nails, reading on beaches...OMG I will stop! Hahah sorry if that list got obnoxious!
Hope you have a lovely Tuesday night!!! Much love! xoxoxo
Ahhh.. summer!! As a kid (and still today) summer always started when the pool opened! Two more weeks!
your veggie snack with hummus looks delish
and I am still on the hunt for coconut butter!
feel better soon :)
Love the lunch snack plate annnnd sweet potato fries
Ahh, you are making me ACHE for summertime! I can't wait to decrease my daily productivity. Haha.
My nose ALWAYS clears up when I run, it actually gets drippy, so I just have to make sure I have a sleeve/kleenex/little towel handy to catch the nasty stuff. Good luck, I hope it clears up soon!
I always get sick at really stressful times. It's like my body knows it's finals week and decides to harbor all sorts of nasty germs.
Summer means waking up without an alarm. It could be 7 am, but as long as I'm nice and rested and see the sun shining, I'm happy.
I am not a huge fan of summer (it gets much too hot here) but I still try to enjoy it as best I can. I don't usually skip some for of physical activity unless I am on my deathbed. I love it too much! I ove getting those endorphins all worked up. :)
ahh summer. all i need is the golden sun, my bicycle & some stunna shades and im good to go :o)
I know it's summer when I can eat outside at 8 or later in plenty of daylight! Glorious.
I've been a giant lazy bones lately too! I feel like I need to make some projects so that I don't go out of my mind with boredom.
If I have a cold and want to go for a run, I'll pop a lozenge that contains eucalyptus before I head out. It really clears up the stuffiness. :)
Summer's my favorite season! I love being able to veg out and read for hours straight if I want to! Your sweet potato fries look great! How do you cook them?
I always know its summer when school is out...but now I have no school to go back to and a full time job staring me in the face, so I'm not sure summer will ever truly feel the same again :(
Good luck with your 1/2 training, I hope the cold clears up. Have a great Wednesday girl!
I usually try not to exercise when I'm sick, but today and yesterday I've felt the very first inkling of a cold and I went to bikram yoga and now I feel great! So maybe a little sweating it out isn't such a bad thing.
I know it's summer when I stay up till 6 in the morning playing world of warcraft. Unfortunately, I am no longer in school and unemployed, so every day is like a summer day + massive debt.
I feel you on the first paragraph; it is AMAZING to finally just be able to do nothing and have no guilt. That's the best part about summer. I KNOW it's summer when fresh berries are on sale at the farmer's market.
With running and colds you have to play it by ear. Sometimes I will start out on a run and if it hurts my head and I feel like I'm not breathing properly, then I'll turn it into a walk. If I just have a cough and a sore throat, it's usually fine.
Happy Wednesday love!
"go to CVS for the sole purpose of buying shea butter and gum"
Umm if you ever have kids, some days the ONLY thing that gets accomplished is a shower. And cleaning up bodily fluids many times per day. Diapers, spit up, you name it. And when folding laundry is the sign of productiviy, you know you have become: a mother!
Btw loved your comment re your dad/mom and closer with him than her. I am close with neither. Bad situation but yeah, I am so happy for you that you have such a close relationship w/ your dad. I think that's how scott & skylar will be one day too but hopefully she'll like me, too! xo
even overcooked asparagus is good asparagus...seriously. i love the cuke+tomato+asparagus+hummus mix. in Israel they serve a salad called "israeli salad" (so creative, right) that's basically just cukes and tomatos with olive oil and lemon juice, and it goes brilliantly with hummus.
I know its summer...when I'm back in class. I'm so lame, I like summer classes.
Also I can never run with a cold ... cannot breathe. Kills me. I just wait it out. I'm the type who panics if I'm not getting enough air so I just can't do it.
Gosh I am so jealous...I would kill to have nothing to do right now.
Those nuts in your hand look delicious. (TWSS)
Alright, I totally realized how dirty that sounded, but typed it anyway. :)
I know it's summer when the city pool opens. My friends and I lifeguarded there for years! Oh, AND when the snow cone place in town opens. Worked there, too. Oh, AND when bonfire parties start becoming more frequent (small. town. southern. Indiana. Ugh.).
I know its summer when my son is home everyday driving me nuts!!!! lol!!! that will be soon!! I also know its summer when in the morning I dont have to put on a full sweatsuit to walk the dog!!
Too funny you were drinking the same tea! I just got it a World Market and was like hey this sounds yum! I love it!!
Yes Mike is amazing and always knows what to get me!!!
Love you girl and hope you enjoy your day!!!!!!
Oh i know that productive summer feeling :) luckily i start my internship tomorrow so Im not completely bored out of my mind! haha
I agree with you on the millet bread - so dense and chewy; love it :)
I know what you mean about "summer productivity". I leave for state college in a month, so getting a job or internship is kind of out of the question. Luckily I've been pretty busy running my tush off since I've been home. I hope your internship works out - can't wait to hear about it!
I want to try millet bread so so bad!!!
oh summer... can't live with it, can't live without it. I go so crazy the first couple weeks without anything to do. When I finally get use to nothingness, I have to go back.
I know its summer when I am in the comfort of my own my home, with a clean kitchen full of gadgets waiting to be used!!
I don't even know it's summer anymore because of my job :(
Nothing to look forward too.
agenda of nothingness = heavenly
when i have a cold i do more low impact exercises (maybe some pilates, weight training, or whatever classes are offered on my exercise TV on demand). i try to avoid the gym bc it seems to just expose me to more germies. i like doing the programs in my apt, even though i dont have much room, bc then i can stop and start again as i need, and choose something appropriate based on how i feel.
Gosh I love CVS. I think I could browse all day- mainly in the beauty section. Never enough make up and skin care products.
Your meals are perfect. I need to try the millet bread- it looks and sounds delicious and filling. I'm only concerned that the slices are so small, but I bet they pack a punch.
I know it's summer when the air smells of freshly cut grass and you hear that faint buzzing of bugs. Love it!
Have a great day beauty!!
Awww, hun, sorry you're still not feeling the best. I hope you're cold clears up soon! And I'm totally with you about going crazy from too much "nothingness". It's nice to have the occasional day where I can be lazy and not run around doing things, but too many days like that and I go stir crazy. I need to feel productive by the end of the day.
For me, summer means longer, warmer, carefree days. It means relaxing in the hot sun, sipping on cool drinks, walking barefoot in the grass, and devouring massive amounts of fresh fruits :) And the no homework thing is a nice perk too.
Have a beautiful hump day!
hummus + asaparagas is a match made in heaven for sure :)
i love how you're sharing bread tips with other gf women! forever in life when she falls in love with millet and eats it she will always think of you! hahaha. enjoy your day girlfrand
hey gorgeous girlllay!!
eeek I love this post, it has me sooo PUMPED for summer!!
to me summer=BEACH AND LAKE and having NO schedule!!
I hope you have been having a fabulous week!
xoxo!
Your picture of cucumber, tomato and asparagus with Sabra hummus is phenomenal. As in I'd like to recreate that in the near future.
i hope you feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!
veggies with marinara- i like!
ICED COFFEE!!! thats how I know it summer and also more time spent outside in the sun! reading, eating, walking, anything!! i love being outside!
asparagus and hummus is so good! i like cooking it in hot water, just for a min so its still crunchy but a bit cooked, that inside hummus you must try!!
I really want to try millet bread!!
Enjoy summer! You worked hard- this will probably be one of your last summers before you are a boring adult, so have some fun!
I know it's summer when it's still light when I get home!
hi! i just came across your blog. this sounds kinda weird.. but i go to school in the town that you did the mothers day race! I saw it!! Crazy! email me or comment on my blog!
I am a firm believer that radio music gets better in the summer! :)
I'm with One Healthy Apple - i SO miss my summers - enjoy it chica!
WOOOOOOO summer!! Congrats on finishing up this semester still alive (ha, I kid). Enjoy being free from school work & commitments. Go celebrate!
a to the men, girl! you worked HARD this summer and deserve TONS of R&R.. enjoy it!!!!!
Be sure to keep me posted on the internship thing - that's so exciting! Fingers crossed for you, angelface :) xoxo
Strawberries are appearing in so many bloggers sandwiches, I want to try it! I know it is summer when I head for Cali. Oh, and I definitely run through a cold, but I probably shouldn't haha.
