Whirlwind

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve all had a great Tuesday…we’re coming down the home stretch with the wedding preparations, so I’ve been helping my parents all day! I’m so excited for the weekend! The next nine days will be a whirlwind:

Thursday I’m headed to the shore and having dinner with Gracie of Girl Meets Health
Friday will be full of last-minute prep and the wedding rehearsal + dinner
Saturday is the wedding!
Sunday-Wednesday I’ll be in Cape Cod with Mike and his family
Thursday I’m going to NYC to see Caitlin promote Operation Beautiful on the Today show!

Clearly, lots of exciting stuff!

I mixed up my breakfast this morning, literally:

This bowl contained:

  • Raw oats
  • So Delicious coconut milk kefir
  • Huge spoonful of Nutella
  • Fresh raspberries
  • Dash of cocoa powder

The Nutella + raspberries combo is a match made in breakfast heaven, I promise!

It was such a beautiful morning that I couldn’t bear to be in the gym or garage! I didn’t want to stress my knees since I ran yesterday, so I went on a half-hour power walk around my neighborhood instead. It’s days like these that I really miss having a dog!

For the strength part of my workout, I made use of this book I bought yesterday:

I’m always lacking motivation in the strength-training department, so I knew it would be a wise investment! Gracie has given it great reviews, and I agree- there’s an exercise for everything in here! I did about half an hour of glute, core and arm exercises, then snacked on a handful of almonds to refuel.

For lunch, I had sandwich with a Sunshine burger, Sabra sun-dried tomato hummus, an heirloom tomato and fresh basil leaves on Ezekiel bread. Some canary melon rounded out the meal.

I spent the afternoon organizing and counting place cards, tallying the number of each entrée and doing a few random errands. I snacked on a protein SIAB at some point:

  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior vanilla protein powder
  • almond milk
  • handful of blueberries
  • sprinkle of xanthan gum
  • lots of ice!

Once I’d crossed everything off my to-do list, I whipped up a batch of muffins with the pumpkin leftover from Friday’s pumpkin walnut loaf. I used the recipe for Ginger-Pumpkin muffins in the Babycakes cookbook, and they came out perfectly- so fluffy and moist!

Of course, I immediately sampled one with Naturally Nutty butter toffee peanut butter as pre-dinner appetizer.

Dinner was a salad with honey mustard tofu. I baked a block of firm tofu in a mixture of honey, Dijon mustard and lemon juice, then served it on top of beet greens, tomato, cucumber and carrots dressed in hummus.

Some more Naturally Nutty butter toffee PB slipped in there as well J

Hope you all have a great night!

Any fun plans for the next few weeks?

What’s your favorite way to strength-train? At home, at the gym, in a class?

now i'm craving pumpkin muffins HARDCORE. ahh!

i really hate strength training so i like to do it in a class because that seems to make it a little less hellish. the other people really help distract me.

I love strength training classes! They push me so much harder.

I just took pictures of my tempeh and they're arranged just like your tofu. Great food blogger minds think alike I guess?

I love strength training classes at the gym for motivation, but I don't have a membership now until school. So I'm rolling with Jillian Michaels for now when I can.

I honestly don't get the whole 'chocolate mixed with fruit' combinations. Some people just rave about it but it just grosses me out!! Sorry :P

My favourite way to strength train is at the gym, but I work out at home right now because I don't have a gym nearby :o I really want to take some classes though.. that would be awesome!

Pumpkins muffins look delicious!

Ahh - if I had a car, I'd say we should meet up down in the Cape!! Have a great little getaway though!! Busy week!!

I've been reading your blog for quite sometime, and am finally commenting! You've got a busy schedule coming up! My brother's wedding was a year ago and it can be stressful leading up to it, but the day itself is always beautiful. Best wishes for this weekend! And I've never taken a strength training class (kind of intimidated!) but I love doing it at the gym.

PS, I'm jealous of your pumpkin baked goods! I can't find any cans of pumpkin here!

Wow-- you do have a busy couple of weeks up ahead! Sounds like all fun stuff though!

That sounds like such a fun and busy week! Good luck with the rest of the wedding prep. :)

I've seen a couple of bloggers mention that book and it sounds amazing! I like to do strength training at the gym. I mostly use the machines because I don't know many exercises with free weights or body weight.

so awesome that you are going to see Caitlin promote her book, she is so fun and i bet it will be great!

i actually do all my workouts at home in our gym room (gave up my gym membership months ago - best decision ever for me)! i love exercise tv or yoga to really keep things fresh and tone up all those spots that i wouldn't have thought to work at the gym!

I love what a year-round thing pumpkin is for us! I had pumpkin oats this morning! I need to invest in a strength training book like that.. I either go to Body Pump at the gym or do a hodge podge of stuff from magazine clip-outs. You have so much exciting stuff coming up; enjoy!!

I am dying to just bite right into your lunch. I've never tried the Sunshine burgers - but they look and sound so amazing.

ahh, I neeeed to get xanthan gum! and nutritional yeast! I hear they are at whole foods, but I have no idea where to look! (I get easily distracted in that store. I often end up going home with a lot more than I had planned for! hahha)
my fav way to strentgh train is wth free weights/stepper/ etc. I LOVE using Jari Love videos, too! I find them so much fun!

have a fun next 9 days!!! I have that book! I actually accidentally ordered it when I ordered my subscription to womens health mag but then started using it I LOVE it....do strength training 3 times a week started with 4# weights now up to 8# weights, dont use gym really (only have a school gym dont like to use that in summer, might join one though) I just started using machines today on vacation at the gym here and I love them. Anyway I really recommend doing the strength training 3 times a week and what I do is like the book says MON 3 reps 5x each WED 3 reps 15x each FRI 3 reps 10x each and I mix up the body parts dont do all one example all shoulder exercises. I love having the book to check if I am doing each pose correctly and not risk injury! Ohh socool you are going to today show...I so should go would be fun lol

Oh, wow girl. Your upcoming week is looking pretty exciting! I really love it when so many things start happening at once... gives me a lot to look forward to :) Unfortunately, I don't really have anything big coming up in the next few weeks... just the regular running around. I'm planning a road trip sometime in the beginning of August, though, so I really hope that turns out :)

I actually really love strength training. I used to be all about the cardio, but now I prefer the weights. My favorite place is in the gym, and I've never taken a class... but occasionally I don't mind doing a bit at home. It's just a lot harder to get motivated that way.

All your eats look so FUN today! My dinner was almost the same as your lunch. :)
I wish I could come down to the city for the Operation Beautiful promo on the Today Show! I should really just get a train ticket and do it!

So I'm kinda extremely jealous of your plans!! Happy for you though - I can't wait to hear all about it! I'm gonna be living thru your blog for the next few weeks, hah! Also going to SC with some friends!

Eats look AMAZING! That Naturally Nutty peanut butter sounds awesome!

Damn, what an awesome week you got ahead of you!!! So jealous you get to see Caitlin. I was just in NY last week, but now I'm back in San Diego. I SOO wish I could be there!! Have so much fun, I'll be checking you guys out on tv. :)

I read through that book yesterday when I was reserving my copy of OB. It really does have everything!! Strength training at home is hard for me, but I just joined a gym. I am loving it so far! (After one day, haha!)

That is a ton of exciting stuff coming up. I found Operation Beautiful yesterday and I can't wait to read it. How cool you get to go and support her that day.

Also, I'm coming up to Philly next weekend. I would love to meet up with you and Gracie. I know she can't but I would love to meet you if possible. :) I know its last minute...

Ilana said...

Hiiii my love! Looks like you have a ton of fun stuff coming up - and good thing when the wedding is over you don't have to help plan anymore haha. I'm so excited to see you next week!! I'm also going to Maine soon, but not til the middle of August. Funny coincidence! I can't wait to hear, well, all about EVERYTHING. Especially the wedding.

Strength training? Pilates is my fave form - because you use the weight and resistance of your own body, you become extremely strong.

Have fun this week babygirl!!!

Liza @ Health Nutting said...

Strength training is so good for you! ... But I rarely do it. I decided I really really nee to incorporate it in order to improve my fitness. I do go to power yoga classes though which I sort of consider as strength training. Love it!
