Pack Rat

Hi guys! Taking a quick break from the packing party to post…stuffing all your clothes into boxes is surprisingly tiring!

Mid-afternoon, I made myself a green monster.

  • Vega shake and go chocolate protein powder
  • Almond milk
  • Two peaches
  • Walnut butter
  • Three large stalks of kale
  • Xanthan gum
  • Lots of ice

I don’t mind a slightly “green” taste to my smoothies, but this tasted like grass. Even two packets of Truvia and a splash of vanilla extract didn’t dull the earthiness! I finished it anyways, but made a mental note not to overdo the kale next time.

A bit later, I headed to the gym with my dad to lift. I did three reps of twelve on each of the twelve strength training circuit machines…hopefully I won’t be too sore to carry boxes tomorrow!

For dinner, I spread two Cedar’s whole-wheat tortillas with Tribe hummus, then topped them with six mashed Trader Joe’s meatless meatballs and basil leaves.

Kailey has raved about these, and now I see why- tres delicieux! Perfectly chewy and filling but lacking the rubbery faux-meat texture I hate.

Dessert: a pink lady and a Maverick honeycomb dark chocolate bar from Freya.

The chocolate was amazing. Freya definitely knows her English treats ;)

After packing for awhile, I broke out the Quaker blackberry pomegranate True Delights I received in my HLS swag bag.

Don’t judge me for eating the entire bag in one sitting…well, my parents may have snagged a few!

It's crazy to think that summer is already over. I've been done school for nearly four months, but it's passed in the blink of an eye! Though I'm ready to go back, I'm also sad to see the beautiful weather and carefree days go. Summer is my favorite season, and while I do enjoy fall, it's tough to leave the heat behind!

Back to packing! Have a great night loves J

Do you like green monsters? If so, how “green” do you like them?

What’s your favorite faux-meat product?

hahaha...i ate almost the whole bag of that in one sitting too...on the plane home from chicago. I needed to bring down the bag size...it was hard to hit in my already overstuffed backpack! haha.

and i love gardenburger products. after that I love tj's marsala burger and morningstar farms burgers and products. tasty tasty!

as for green monsters, i only use spinach because every other green is way too earthy tasting. i also like spinach because it acts like xanthum gum and thickens smoothies, just all natural!

Oh yes we love green smoothies...when probably do more greens than most, but it took some time to get to this point. Yours looks great!

Love green smoothies! But I've only tried the with spinach. For fresh spinach maybe a couple handfuls, but I often use 1 cup of frozen spinach which is good too! I don't like them to taste too green-y, a little is fine! :)

I do love my green monsters! I don't like them "too green" though - I'm not a fan of my smoothies tasting earthy.

No judgement here--those Quacker blueberry crisps are RIDICULOUSLY ADDICTING ssoooooooooo good! I definitely ate an entire bag of them to myself, too! :P

Try the True Delight blueberry flavor..to die for! I too can eat them all in one sitting ;)

DOH someone already said that just above me ;)

I like green smoothies and I don't mind if they taste a little grassy, but I definitely learned never to put sprouts in a smoothie. I couldn't stomach that.

I almost never eat fake meat products, but I like all of them. Seriously, all of them. I'm weird in that I like almost every food on earth. But to pick one, Field Roast chipotle sausages are really amazing in a tofu scramble.

Ooh I'm glad you like the chocolate!
I can take my green monsters pretty darn green..I quite like the earthy taste sometimes :D
I had those True Delights at the HLS - they left such a weird aftertase I felt?
Favourite faux meat = tempeh without a doubt!

I'm not a big fan of green monsters unless its a grean tea one, and its already supposed to be green. haha.

I love TJ's chicken meatballs. I haven't had the fake meat stuff, but I'm sure its really great too.

I can't believe the summer's almost done either! It went by so quickly (as always), but I'm excited because autumn's my fave season :) I do sorta like green monsters, but I don't take em' too green because they tend to upset my stomach if I do... maybe a cup of greens? I haven't had one in a *really* long time. For the faux meat, I like fake chicken patties... with lots of ketchup!

i bought those crisps in blueberry and there were a hit with the fam

the last post, you are sooo daddy's girl and i just love it and what a great time a hike (For 3 weeks!) would be.

Fake meat, dont eat it. Nor do i do green monsters. I get enough veggies in my life. I dont need to eat them blended. I also am not really a smoothie girl, i like to chew. And if i am slurping, it's either a drink, or coffee :)

I love green monsters, "green" flavour and all! But I always add a banana, which helps to mask some of the flavour.

I haven't tried too many faux meat products yet because I'm scared they'll taste fake and horrible! I'm kind of curious to try out faux sausages though.

My green monsters always end up this weird purple-blue color because I add blueberries!

They usually taste pretty green though because I tend to wait until right before my spinach expires so I have to use more than one might normally use to make a Green Monster - I hate letting things go to waste!

I am not ready to start school again. I only have to move thirteen blocks north so the actual moving won't be hard. I just don't want to study...sigh.

I love GMs but only with spinach because I don't like kale. I also really like some of the Amazing Grass powders. We have so much to catch up on once you're back. :) I can't wait!

I lvoe green smoothies, but keep it pretty basic with water, cinnamon, banana, and spinach. Sometimes I'll add in some peanut butter, but that is pretty rare.

I haven't tried any faux meat products, but I have made black bean 'burgers' before and they were fantastic!

I think that is so sweet that you lifted weights with your dad! I had to pack for a three week long vacation once and was exhausted after even that. Go you for having to pack for two SEMESTERS! :)

Aren't those True Delights delish?! I was expecting them to be more rice-cakey, but they were so crunchy and flavorful!

I'm not a fan of super-green Green Monsters. I prefer the "it tastes like I'm drinking a banana smoothie" type :P

Hope the move goes well!! Can't wait til Fridayyy!

I like all of Amy's veggie burgers.. but I don't know if that would even be considered "faux meat?" And I like all Quorn products that I've tried.
And I like Green monsters but I don't like them to taste... "green." I used to be used to the taste but I haven't one in sooooo long. I need to change that..

Good luck with the packing! I know it must be kinda bittersweet to be leaving home but I'm sure you're going to have a blast in NYC!
Love ya!

i LOVE going to the gym with my dad. i'm such a nerd, but have so much fun!

good luck with packing, happy sunday :)

mm my favorite faux meat product... that's hard bc i dont usually gravitate towards food that are meant to resemble meat.

Not a huge fan of fake meat, I prefer making my own burgers & balls with legumes, nuts, grains and seeds. I also love green monsters, not that I do not love veggies on there own, but I love spinach and cucumber in mine...need to try kale, I love it cooked and in salads but I do not know about the green monsters I am so hesitant! Love hiking as well!!! So jealous you have an adorable apartment in the city, hopefully things go good for you!!

I know what you mean about the "green" taste! I usually stick to spinach - and not more than a couple handfuls - for that reason (I've found it to be much more neutral tasting). But if I'm "green loading," I make sure to add A LOT of fruit too. That really helps!

For fake meat - yeah those TJ's meatballs are definitely delish! I also like their fake sausage.

Best of luck with packing!
