Can it really be the last day of November already?! With Foodbuzz, my half-marathon and Thanksgiving break, it’s safe to say this month flew by faster than an other this year. Luckily, December is my favorite cold-weather month!
On November 1, I posted five goals I wanted to work on throughout the month. So how did they turn out?
1. Keep my apartment neater by putting clothes away as I wear them and doing my dishes right after eating. I did better in this department, but there’s still room for improvement. I’m pretty sure last night’s dinner dishes are still in the sink…
2. Finish all homework the night before class, so that mornings aren’t as stressful. This goal went really well! I can’t remember doing any AM homework in the last month.
3. Learn to use my camera better. I finally bought a DSLR book, so I have no excuse to keep using the manual settings! Meh, bringing this goal with me into December. The book I bought ended up being more of a composition manual than an actual camera guide, so I’m hoping to study some online resources I’ve found over break.
4. Drink more water- I was doing great with this until the weather cooled off! 75% effort on this one. I’ve replaced my second mug of morning tea with a glass of water and have remembered to bring my water bottle to class about half the time.
5. Finish my half marathon in 1:45 or less. This goal will definitely be a challenge, but it’s hard enough that if I do succeed I’ll be ecstatic, and if I don’t I won’t be crushed. Not even close. But hey- I’m proud of cutting 4 minutes off of my last half time, I’m planning to run my next half in late spring, so I’ll reinstate this goal then as a training incentive.
Not stellar results, but not bad, either! I’m still thinking of some good December goals…
* * *
This morning, I was excited to get to the gym for some strength training! I had my usual Z-Bar before completing 50 minutes of full-body weight training. I haven’t done a strength workout since well before my half, so it was nice to get back into the groove.
Breakfast was a bowl of Kashi GoLean with a bag of frozen blackberries and almond milk.
I've received several comments asking how cereal keeps me full. My answer? Volume! My bowls are always several “servings,” with plenty of fruit as well.
After a morning of classes, I prepared a simple can of soup for lunch.
I’d had high hopes for this lentil-apple blend, but it ended up being just okay. Not bad, but I probably wouldn’t buy it again. It did pack an incredibly impressive 50g of fiber per can, though! (Edited to add: I threw the can of soup in the recycling and therefore checked the nutrition stats on the Imagine website instead. Turns out the 50g was a typo- it's only 10g fiber per can!)
On the side, I had a slice of whole-wheat bread with peanut butter, a bowl of fresh strawberries and a few pickle spears.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday!
Did you have any November goals? How did they turn out? Do you have any goals for the upcoming holiday season?

I didn't make any goals in November - my goal for the holiday season? Not to gain 10 pounds. :)
I think you did pretty good!! And no goals for me. Or I guess my goal is simply to survive the pregnancy keeping as healthy and balanced as possible. So I guess I succeeded? LOL
I didn't make any November goals either, but I'm compiling a big list of possibilities ready for the New Year resolutions! :P
My goal for the holiday season is to try to keep up the running and exercise despite the weather and other commitments! :)
Great job on those goals! And I had the same reaction to that soup: high hopes that were not met! Oh well.
You did awesome on your goals! Mine was to get through the month alive ha! Those berries on your breakfast look amazing.
I think it sounds like you did a great job! What fun would it be if you fully accomplished all of them, what would be left!? ;-) You made progress and that's what counts. I'm glad it sounds like you aren't too disappointed, as you shouldn't be. At least you made goals! I'll have to do that for December, I like the idea.
omg i just laughed out loud - 50g per can!?!? that sounds dangerous on the colon! too bad it isn't good bc it sounds delish!
I just found your blog and je l'adore! I have a similar outlook on food and I'm taking French at a college in NYC (it's not my major, although I'm seriously in love with it).
I love that your breakfast included a *bag* of frozen blueberries. That's my kind of berry portion, and you must be rolling in antioxidant power! My current berry obsession for cereal is frozen raspberries. Tastes like sorbet!
loved reading about all of your goals!
I want to make some for december...
Are you making a december goal list?
When you say late spring run, are you talking about the Brooklyn Half? I did it this year. It was my first half. I am hoping to do it again next year!
I love it that you not only make these goals, but that you specifically revisit each one! I feel like I'm always making goals...and then forgetting about them, ha!
Congrats on the goals! Sounds like you did fantastic, and your marathon = amazing, no matter if you weren't "close" to your goal, whatever you ROCKED that thing.
Hope you're having a great week!
I love how you make some goals! i should really spend some time and make some too-- i think i will!
50g of fiber!! is that a record!!! ive never seen that much fiber in a small can!! score!
Call me crazy, but those looked like frozen blackberries in your cereal, not blueberries :) Haha. Nice job with the goals!
I love that you ate the whole bag.
I'm right there with ya.
Love the idea of these goals!! It's like a little new years resolution each month!
your strawbs look so good! Great job with the goals - definitely made some progress and I think that's pretty great...
I bought a bike which was on my list of goals - seems funny. I guess the real goal was saving money to buy a bike and I did! :)
50 grams of fiber per can!! Wow--Now, THAT'S some hearty soup! I love the idea of setting goals every month. I haven't done that yet. I did, however, set a goal for the entire year of 2010 to re-paint every room in our house. I have one month left and only 3 walls and a hallway left to paint! I even painted my ugly brown kitchen cabinets. :-)
Good job! Way to shave off time! ahh!
My goals would be:
be more creative about baking ( i.e. make up my OWN recipes)
Help out others in some way, i always feel so good after i Volunteer!
Shave down my 400 time from 56 to 55 sec. And cut down on the swimming part of sprint tri training ( its my weakness!)
I always love your positivity and outlook on life, so glad i found your blog!
Great job on your goals, especially the race one. You've improved and still have more room for improvement!
Great job on your goals! Sub 1:45 will be cake for you ;)
Awesome job with the goals and you've inspired me to make a list for December. :-) Starting with not spending too much money!
It sounds like you made a good dent in your goals! Even if you didn't accomplish them all, I think trying is what's important! :)
I never really set any official goals for myself... but after my nutrition lecture last week on fluid intake, I've definitely been trying to drink more water too!
I love your idea of setting monthly goals, I am setting some for myself right now! :)
I've had the same goals all year- Eat for better performance and sleep more. Definitely not sleeping enough...will try as a new years resolution AGAIN this year!
