Last night, I went to a second Thanksgiving dinner that probably beat the first in terms of company and conversation. I love my family, but there’s nothing better than a five-hour gossip sesh with friends you haven’t seen in months.
A large group of girls from my high school congregated at my friend Julia’s house for Thanksgiving II, a tradition that began last year. Here’s to many more years to come!
Our hostess with the mostest:
It’s safe to say that everyone in my graduating class was a serious foodie, so the spread was no joke.
There was a turkey:
Two trays of stuffing:
Baguette with brie and prosciutto:
Plain ol’ mashed taters:
Mashers with blue cheese:
My contribution, Angela’s sweet potato casserole:
Spinach salad:
As well as several other sides I didn’t snap, including cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, another kind of stuffing, bacon and cider.
Since I’d made myself quite sick with all the pecans, Earth Balance, maple syrup and potatoes I’d ingested while preparing the casserole, I kept my dinner plate light: regular mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce and salad. That was fine by me though, because it left plenty of room for dessert J
There were holiday cookies:
Perfectly decorated sugar cookies:
Pilgrims, look!!
Mini Oreo cheesecakes:
Petit fours:
Dulche de leche atop bread pudding:
And a pecan and pumpkin pie I didn’t catch. I had about four sugar cookies, a mini cheesecake, two petit fours, several spoonfuls of dulche de leche and a few slivers of pecan pie. Guf. Sugar overload, but it tasted sooo good!
While eating, I had the honor of chatting with some of my favorite ladies.
We even brought out Skype to see friends abroad!
My high school was a very special place to me, and will always hold a huge piece of my heart. There were 84 girls in my graduating class, and we had the strange but most amazing connection with one another. Being weird wasn’t weird, it was embraced and only made you a better person. It’s a feeling I know I’ll never be able to replicate exactly with those outside of our class, but I treasure it so much!
Is there a group of people besides your family that you feel "at home" with? I definitely feel most at home with my high school friends, but it's amazing how quickly I've come to feel "at home" with the blogging friends I've made!

You're right! The spread is amazing! I like it when there is a mix of traditional Thanksgiving dishes and some other dishes. Glad you had fun! :-)
Wow, what an amazing spread! That's so great that you all had such a tight connection and have such a nice tradition. I definitely hear ya on the sugar overload, though!
The food looks amazing, but the girls do too! That is amazing how close all the girls were - did you go to a private school?
That sounds so ridiculously fun. :)
The food and the people both look so great! Its so nice that you can all get together at Thanksgiving! I am lucky to DEFINITELY feel that way about my college friends - they are the best and I know I can always be my quirky self with them. Glad you had such a nice Thanksgiving weekend!
Aw what a great tradition with your hs friends! You and your friends are all gorgeous, and seriously talented in the kitch! Anyone who can cook a turkey or bake a pie gets major props from me.
I definitely feel at home with my best friends too.
Aw this looks like SO much fun!! I have actually been wanting to make Angela's sweet potatoes for awhile... maybe this weekend! :)
that is certainly an amazing spread of goods!!!
I always feel at home with 5 of my great friends from college who i roomed with on and off for 4 years. they never cease to amaze me.
Love! That spread looks amazing!! ...those Oreo cheesecakes...nom! I feel most at home with my best, but she's across the country and I only get to see her a couple of times a year.
what a feast! the best part if that you got two wonderful Thanksgivings!
If it's wrong to love those Pillsbury slice 'n bake cookies, then I don't want to be right! Haha!
I graduated in a class of 140 other girls, and I have good memories of my high school experience as well.
Oh yes! Combine Thanksgiving leftovers and girls' night?? You are genious. how have I never thought of this?? Totally at home with some of my favorite friends in the city.
What an awesome tradition! I wish I could say the same about my high school friends. Since moving to the city though, I've found friends whom I feel right at home with!
Love those desserts. Sweets are a total weakness of mine! I think I'm still in a sugar coma from all of the desserts I've consumed in the past couple of days!
These pictures make me sad that the UK doesnt celebrate thanksgiving - you look like you had a total blast! The food, so yum <3 x
What a great evening and the food looks wonderful. A lovely tradition that makes me sad most of my graduating class is 3000 miles away.
Looks like a great meal!
Those desserts look lovely. It looks like a great time, nothing like an evening with the girls!
That is such a fun tradition! It's great that you have stayed so close with all your HS friends.
I feel really at home with my high school friends too. Whenever we are all back in town and get together, it feels like we never left high school!
I think it's so wonderful that you do this! I'm not very close with my high school friends anymore, but I've definitely found people at college with whom I can wine, dine, and have some fabulous gossip sessions.
Enjoy your time before you have to go back to class!
This spread is incredible! I am so glad you had such a positive high school experience; it's rare to be THAT close with so many people! You know you need help when the FIRST thing you see in the picture is STUFFING! The first picture you posted with all the Turkey- I saw the stuffing in the background first. Then I nearly drooled over the close up! I keep saying Stuffing needs to be it's own food group (along with Dad's brand GOODIE RING COOKIES- life changing!)! Oreo cheesecakes!!?? Seriously? Dulce de leche bread pudding and petite fours? I am so jealous! You Thanksgiving 2 looks awesome!
