December Goals

Bonsoir! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Wednesday J

I made good use of a very boring class this afternoon by writing out my December Goals:

1. Drink more water. I’m carrying this over from last month because I really want to get into the habit!
2. Learn to use my DSLR better. Another repeat. As Ashley said at Foodbuzz, if you don’t know how to use a fancy camera it’s just a glorified point-and-shoot. And starting December 14, I’ll have plenty of downtime to really figure things out.
3. Experiment with two new non-dessert recipes per week. Though I’m great at trying out new baked goods, when it comes to mealtimes I’ve been falling into somewhat of a rut. (Hummus-topped salad beasts, anyone?) I have tons of bookmarked recipes I’d like to try for lunches and dinners!
4. Try two new fitness classes over break. My home gym offers BodyPump, yoga, BodyBar, spinning, Zumba and pilates. Why not try something new?
5. Be more patient with others. I’m a stickler for time and tend to get frustrated quite easily, which never helps the situation. This month I’d like to make a concerted effort to be relax in situations I can’t control.

* * *

Before classes this afternoon, I snacked on two pieces of whole-wheat sourdough topped with peanut flour paste.

This snack really does a great job of keeping me full! I added honey + vanilla again, which gives the paste a good flavor.

Have you ever had a craving so strong that everything else seems gag worthy? After class I was craving a pita like no one’s business. Not just any kind of carb- a pita.

As a result, dinner was rather snacky. It included a huge bowl of chopped cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots, topped with a huge blob of Sabra hummus and two fluffy pitas. I started off with just one, but that didn’t cut it!

To add more sustenance, I also had about two servings of plain cashews and a pile of frozen grapes.

A bit later, I broke into my chocolate show stash and selected a small dark chocolate bar.

It was smooth and dark without being bitter. I ended up eating the whole bar.

I've got a poem to translate and a paper to outline. See you tomorrow!

What are your December goals? Or, are you already thinking ahead to the New Year?

I love the idea of adding honey and vanilla to make the pb flour have a better taste. I tried it this morning, and it was so much better! Thanks for the tip!

Great goals! That's a really good idea to list those out each month. I should get mine in writing! I am trying to drink more water, too. I was so good about it throughout college, and then I fell off the wagon & usually struggle now. It's so dumb, but sometimes I even think, "I should be drinking water right now" - but then I don't go get any... Haha. So silly.

Whole wheat sourdough sounds AMAZING!

I love your last goal- I need to work on that too. And definitely try spin & body pump, those are my two favorite gym classes actually!

"make a concerted effort to be relax in situations I can’t control."--

Amen to that! Most of life, well much of it, we really can't control. Others, what they do, the way the universe and the world just spits things at us...so it's in our best interest to just take a chill pill and ride the waves. Rather than trying to swim upstream, so to speak. This is much easier said than done but at your ripe old age of 20 :) I love that your brain is working this way!

Craving so strong? Yea. That's what pregnancy is. A series of cravings so strong and also aversions so strong...one day you will probably know this feeling. It's like nothing I can even describe!

I agree with the realxing in situations statement you made too!

its really one of my flaws, okay, a big one! I always feel the need to be perfect and not let anyone down, which gets really hard on me. If i cant control whats going on i need to slow down, take a breath and move on.

I also agree with the cooking one, may i suggest apricot curry tofu quinoa?! its soo good!

"drinking enough water"-- umm, does it say enough that im staring at six empty water bottles? thats not even counting the teas i drank. What can i say, athlete= thirsty. :)

You should def try BodyPump - it's not boring like weight lifting can be on your lonesome! Pilates - I am starting it soon. I know it can make a rockin' core and abs! Yoga is amazing! Do it! I am not a big fan of Zumba. At my gym it's ALWAYS so crowded in there for Zumba.

I need to learn how to use my DSLR too. In one and a half weeks I will! Along with making some real meals, instead of throwing stuff together. I don't want to eat so much processed stuff!

How do you make your peanut paste? :) you can reply to me at my blog, or my email: lemonhead10@hotmail.com

thanks, girl! :)

I hope your week is off to a great start!
xoxo!

Drinking water is definitely something I'd put as a personal December goal, too! We all know it's super important to drink water through the day, but we tend to forget it easily =P

More water intake is at the top of my list. I am still trying to get over the need to flavor my water with some sugar free powder. I'm working on it!

Zumba is amazing! If you have a chance, take it! I want to try out BodyPump...it sounds really interesting.

I haven't started thinking about goals for next year, but this is a great time to start!

I'm working on drinking more water too, and I'd like to incorporate more weight training into my routine. Are you planning to run any local races when you are home for break?

I'm really hesitant to try that peanut flour paste stuff because I figure it can't compare to the real deal...but your pics always make it look so rich and yummy!

Haha I know the "HAVE TO HAVE THIS NOW" feeling...I'll end up eating ten other items in an attempt to avoid the one original thing and still end up eating it anyways because nothing else can come close to stopping the desire!

December Goal: Be more positivte about myself - it's been a struggle lately, and I don't know why. Either way, it's exhausting!!!!

My goal for December is to make goals for December! I'm a day late, I know, but I had a busy day! I know one goal will be to withstand all these amazing pictures and recipes of sweet treats I keep seeing everywhere and stick to healthy stuff. Challenging during the holidays, let me tell you!

your goals are great! I love the idea of taking advantage of other classes at your home gym. Also, if you are looking for a comforting, yummy meal on a cold day or night, try Mama Pea's roasted chickpea recipe that she posted yesterday. I made mine with brown rice instead of farro and broccoli instead of carrots and it was so easy and delicious. http://peasandthankyou.com/2010/11/30/a-break-in-the-baking/

I like the goals! I'll have to post mine soon as well.

keep motivated to workout during the cold
try something new every day

Ohh try zumba!I went to a class at the HLS and it was the best workout EVER! Obvs not every teacher might be as good as Diana (the chic life), but still!
I haven't thought about my goals yet, but new recipes is a must, for sure.

You should try mixing pb flour with almond milk to make a pastea and then adding in some kashi golean for breakfast! I think it is so delicious and satisfying! Keeps me full for like four hours too!

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg said...

Great goals! I need to try experimenting with more new recipes too...I get stuck in the same old routine!

i'm a zumba instructor so i would be partial to saying go to that!...if you get the right instructor, it's the best, most fun cardio work out there is. high-impact dancing to sick music for one hour and you won't even feel like you were "working out"...but you'll be dripping in sweat!

Great goals! I really want to try out some new recipes and fitness classes too.

But I'm not going to bother setting goals until after the semester is done... because until then I'm just focusing on staying sane! Haha.

Writing goals definitely seems like a good way to accomplish them **runs to write some**

Also, it's fun to do an X things before X years. I did my 30 before 30 and crafted 30 things to accomplish before I'm 30, which is sneaking up on me quickly!

I love goal posts. I'm breaking mine into seasons, so need to start working on ideas for the winter.

What good goals for the month! I'm going home for a few weeks in Dec. and I don't have a gym there because it's not technically my "home" anymore, so I've been looking up fitness classes to take and Zumba is on my list. I did it once and loved it. I also want to try bar method before I leave Chicago. I keep hearing great things about it.

Hello!
I had to comment: I love your goals! It is so refreshing to read about someones' goals that aren't "lose weight/diet' etc. I think it would be cool if you gave yourself a baking challenge as well! Get a cake/baking book and make 1 recipe each week! Thanks for the great goal inspiration; I love the camera one!
