Oh baby love, my baby love

Hi bloggies! Thank you all so much for your input and suggestions on my blogging rut. You’ve given me some great ideas! It seems that everyone likes getting to know the blogger behind the posts, so I’m going to try to include more of my day-to-day life from now on. Workouts and fashion were two other big requests, so I’m still coming up with some fun ideas to incorporate them.

Speaking of workouts, this morning’s was TOUGH! It’s been awhile since I got my cardio on, so I hopped on the elliptical for 45 minutes in my garage. The heat made it incredibly sweaty and difficult- I only covered 3 miles in that time! I know HIIT is all the rage, but sometimes I just crave a slow and steady workout.

Breakfast was a bowl of Kashi GoLean, almond milk and bloobs, plus about six gallons of water.

I helped out in the maternity clinic again today, and fell even more in love with babies. I used to hate them, but I guess my biological clock has kicked in because I can’t help but coo over them. Sorry, inner mommy, but you’re waiting about ten years to have your own.

After reading all about a certain snacky blonde’s millet obsession this morning, I dug a few slices out of the freezer to make my lunch.

A squeeze pack of Justin’s chocolate almond butter (from Katie) on millet bread, along with a bag of cherries and a handful of almonds.

I was craving pretzels for the last few hours of work, so I made a stop at the hospital vending machines on my way out for a bag of Rold Gold honey wheat pretzel twists. Served with a squeeze of yellow mustard, these brought me back to the days of after-school snacks at my friend Lauren’s house.

I wasn’t feeling to creative for dinner, so I just threw a bunch of stuff into a bowl and hoped for the best. This contained broccoli, carrots, a tomato, tomato sauce, nutritional yeast and our only block of silken tofu. Firm would have worked far better, but beggars can’t be choosers!

This was surprisingly awesome. Despite the sloppy looks, the taste was delicious- the ingredients were simple, but it packed a lot of taste!

Of course, no dinner is complete without fruit + chocolate. A pink lady and Lindt 85%, to be exact.

Tonight will be busy! I’m packing boxes for a trip to New York tomorrow (we’re moving the furniture into my apartment…whee!), going to see Twilight with my madre and then packing up the truck for the ride. Talk to you from the Big Apple!

Can you work out in heat + humidity? As long as I knock it out in the morning, I’m good. Something about bright sunlight and heat makes a workout unbearable for me.

Babies- love em or hate em? They used to scare me, but now I think there’s nothing cuter than a tiny sleeping baby in an adorable outfit. Like I said though- none on the radar for awhile!

Still taking suggestions of things you’d like to see on the blog!

I absolutely can't work out in heat and humidity. I hate it. I always work out indoors!

I can't work out in heat/humidity either! Babies are weird - they kinda scare me too!

I LOVE those wheat pretzels!

summertime is when i really milk my gym membership for all its worth. i just CAN'T stand the heat (but I refuse to get outta the kitchen ;] )

Babies? umm...NO. definitely a no.

Some of the best meals I've made have been the ones where I just threw everything into a bowl and hoped for the best :) You really can't go wrong with veggies and tofu.

Babies used to scare me too! And I was convinced at some point that I never wanted children. The older I get, though, the more adorable I think they are... although I probably won't be saying that when I have my own and they're bawling at 3 AM...

Me and workouts in hot weather don't mix at all. I get really lightheaded and feel like I'm going to faint. I prefer exercising outside to running on a machine, but sometimes you just can't be the nice cool, indoor air.

I can run in the heat and humidity, but not for as long. I've been cutting my runs short lately, and go walking instead. It's not worth it to feel sick.

Katie said...

Colorado is basically humidity free, so I can't say much about working out in it. I like to run on the beach on vacation - so maybe I would like it. I'm kind of a heat monster - I usually can't get it hot enough!

I'm such a baby-lover. My mommy clock has been wildly ticking since I was 16 years old.

love babies! i so so so want some one day! :) not yet, but one day YES YES YES! ughh the humidity is so bad! for me to workout outside I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to that! i need it to be max 75 and sunny with no humidity! haha other than that Im inside baby! :)

great job on the elliptical!!!

I cannot do humidity - it killllllls me. Even when I'm not working out - I sweat so damn much, it's ridiculous(ly gross) haha.

Also - love babies...but I especially love being able to hand them back to their parents at the end of the day. haha

Love those honey wheat pretzel sticks...I have some sitting on the top of my fridge!!

Jessica (Healthy Exposures) said...

I hate humidity, too. I can deal with hot. I am a total wimp when it comes to humidity, especially when it's as humid as it has been! It's just so gross :( Over soon, though!!
Everyone raves about millet bread, and I've yet to try it!! I think it's something to do with my inner bread snob. I just have difficulties picking a loaf up from an ordinary grocery store :P I'll have to cave soon, though. And don't you love when dinner can be thrown together like that yet it's still awesome?!
I can't say I hate babies or kids - but rather I'm not their biggest fan, haha. I do dislike them less now than I used to, though. Must be my age, too ;)

After nannying for a few days my biological clock has turned itself off and shut down. Yikes! They're cute until you have to bring them home ;)

A lot of my dinners lately have been random things thrown in a bowl lol. Works for me :) And I love babies- when they're other people's haha. I like to play with them and give them back at the end of the day

Enjoy NY!!

girl- my mom is an RN in the newborn babies department..she LOVES it!! so beautiful to see the gift of life every single day! youd be an AMAZING nurse!

I babysit for a woman that just had her third child a few days ago. Seeing that wrinkled, red sack of pee makes me think babies aren't really cute until 6 months or so- when they start babbling and smiling, I love them! Is that mean? ;-p

I love those pretzels, I bet they would be awesome with PB!
Working out in the heat and humidity is sooo hard on me, I would rather go inside!

Lisa said...

I can work out in the heat no problem, but the humidity is what gets me. I went for a bike ride the other day and it was rpretty hot & humid, i felt like I was riding through a cloud of hot air. ugh. I hate that "hair-sticking-to-my-face" feeling!!

Christina said...

oh heck no, i don't run in this heat. i'm in the gym only, and that's hot as crap too. i swear they don't use the a/c. ugh!

ummm newborn babies are nice but they scare me. i like toddlers bc you can't really break them. crying babies scare me a lot. i'm good with kids. babies are yiiiiiikessss.

i LOVE honey wheat pretzels.

I want to try Justin's Nut Butter so bad, but I am allergic to almonds :( Super BUMMER.

As for the blog, I like the idea of learning more about you! And I like the idea of fashion too (maybe like gym fashion?) I think that would be nice and def different!

I better get to meet you at HLS! xoxo

I love the heat! I'm not a fan of humidity, but I still prefer it over the winter. It is kind of annoying waking up so early to run. Meh.

I love babies. So adorable. I would love my own, but I'd like to avoid the whole being pregnant thing. Eh, I have a long time before I seriously start even thinking about kids. And it's nice to coo and hold a baby and then hand him/her over to a parent when he/she starts getting cranky!

Oh dear God has my biological clock ever kicked in! I want to be a mother very, very much. And to be honest, I don't really want to wait. I kind of hate that schooling and finding the right mate takes so long. I want babies now! But I know that's just the hormones talking, lol. :)

Happy Friday my dear!

Averie @ Averie Cooks said...

I never ever ever was one of those girls who wanted a baby. EVER. In fact i didnt know how to hold one let alone have one. then at age 28 I HAD TO get pregnant. Not ticking, THUMPING away was my clock. Scott was like whoa. He made me wait for 6 mos b/c it was such a 180 from the old me. 6 mos later, tried, got preg, rest is history. Best thing i ever did was to become a mother. Hardest work, best work. You will make an aMAZING!!! mother!! One day, of course :)

Oh girl, you KNOW we have to have a martini/margarita bar in our hotel room lol!!!! SO SO excited and SO glad you booked it! :D Yayyyyyy!! About to be an EPIC WEEKND!

Babes=love
the heat=hard to work out in! I did a pretty easy lake loop today--and yesterday--2.8 miles, but the heat made me walk SLOW. and hot yoga today, HARD. slow and tiring! but i love the heat, i'll take it ;)

You know from my recent blog posts that I have a lot of baby love :-)

Chelsea said...

I definitely can't run outdoors in this heat! I've been making the most of my gym membership this summer, that's for sure.

Oh my goshhhh, I LOVE babies! My childhood best friend is actually having a baby in a month. I could not even imagine having a baby right now though!

I've been hiding in the gym during this unbearable heat. I just can't deal with 90+ temps!

I'm not cool with babies - yet. I think the cute ones are nice and funny, but as soon as one starts to wail, you can bet I'm over it. Maybe someday I'll change my mind, though.

i love schweaty workouts!! its weird even in the heat i love working out because the sweating makes it feel like such a better workout haha i know i know weird

millet is the cuhraze these days! i'm definitely gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for a loaf!

Faith @ LovelyAsCharged said...

I hate running in the humidity, but in Florida, you don't really get a choice, unless you want to run at 4 am (and even then it's debatable.)

That tofu bowl looks like it came out great! Sometimes it's the simple but unphotogenic things that are the best.

I used to LOVE kids and wanted to have a whole brood, but working with them every days has changed that completely! Now I cringe at the thought of having my own brood 24/7...I guess we'll see where that goes over the next several years!

Justine said...

I am all about having a side of sweat with my work out so it doesn't bother me if it is warm/humid. The only downside to that is that if you are working out with those conditions in a public gym, then the smell is awful.

I have warmed up to babies now that my cousin has a little girl (~2.5yrs) but the other night he put her on the telephone and she stopped being cute right there. In person she is an absolute doll, but no baby is cute screaming incoherent things in your ear.

I hope you have a great weekend-spending time with one's mother is always fun! :)

Oh I love babies. I have a 9-month-old baby brother and he's the cutest thing in the world. If you don't believe me, look at the picture of him I put on my blog. It makes me smile every time!

i can walk and swim in the heat--but not running!

I like babies. people tell me Im very maternal. I also have a 8 yr old brother so Ive been around infants before.

sophia said...

I'm sorry for saying this, but I detest babies. With a passion. I don't hate babies because I'm an evil person (I hope), but because...they kinda scare the hell out of me, too. What do I do with them? They are so fragile! And they are so needy! I can't stand people who are clingy, much less tiny people whose life depends on being needy! Eek!

I also can't work out in this crazy weather, unless it's early in the morning. I tried, and almost got heat stroke!

Gracie @ Girl Meets Health said...

I rarely exercise outside, but if I do it's got to be on the cooler side, for sure. Maybe that's one of the reasons I'm not meant to be a runner..? haha

I go through love/hate phases with babies. Lately, like you, it's been a major LOVE phase :/ The problem with that is that I don't even have a BOYFRIEND, haha. Clearly I need to work on that first :P

How exciting is it that you are moving in your furniture to your new place!

Oh, and yeah...I too feared babies a little bit but have come to love lil ones more in the past few years. But like you, think it will be about 8-10 years before I plan on having any!

Running in heat is okay if I do it super early but I am not the best with humidity!

K from ksgoodeats said...

Those honey wheat pretzels are crack in a bag!! Love them! I used to eat them dipped in strawberry yogurt - sweet 'n salty and delish!

I feel ya on the biological clock! Mine is in full gear but it needs to wait!

Megan D said...

I loove almond butter on millet bread! For some reason I can't have it with savory things like eggs.
And I think babies are so adorable! There is something about their innocence that I just love. But like you, I am telling my "inner mommy" to wait a longg time :)

Jessica @ The Process of Healing said...

Oh gosh I HATE heat/humidity... why do I live in SC, remind me? Haha.
I looove babies!!!! My inner mommy came out a looong time ago. But yeah.. it's gonna be a while for that one.
Love you!

I am one of five kids and I have TONS of cousins, so I absolutely love babies and want to have a huge family of my own!!
I have been craving pretzels like mad lately, they are my favorite post-work snack but I never thought to dip them in mustard...I'll have to try it
Hope you're having a great weekend!

Gab, I MISS YOU! Seriously, I really, really do. Glad to catch up on your life, though...

Re: Babies - I was the same way. They used to freak me out, and now I gush over them like crazy.

Re: Your blog rut. I totally feel ya, as I think all our fellow bloggers have hit that wall (more than once for me). Although I think the boring/repetitiveness of your posts is likely only imagined by you (I didn't see it :)) I understand what you mean, and have to join the others who said they like hearing more about the blogger.

LOVE YOU, girl, and yay for the apartment fun!
