Tummy Troubles and New Ideas

It turns out that my ode to seafood a few days ago was a bit of ironic foreshadowing. As I got ready for bed last night, my tummy began to feel a bit queasy; an hour later, I was praying to the porcelain gods. Puking is never fun, but I think raw fish might be the worst thing to see again…

Alas, I finally got to sleep, and though I felt fine by the morning, I decided to keep it simple for breakfast with some dry Kashi GoLean Crunch and a banana.

I decided to take a rest day, and instead spent the morning cleaning my room. No matter how often I do it, there’s always a pile of clothes to be put away or a dust bunny waiting to be attacked. Such is life.

By lunchtime, my appetite was back in full force. I started off with a tomato and hummus sandwich on Ezekiel, plus two sliced Jersey peaches and more blackberries.

When that didn’t quite fill me up, it was time for round two: a handful of dry roasted peanuts and a Lu Petit Ecolier dark chocolate cookie. Much better.

My mom had a colonoscopy done this morning and couldn’t drive, so I spent the rest of the day doing errands for la famille. I snacked intermittently on a Gala apple and baby carrots:

As well as a dry bowl of Three Sisters’ marshmallow oaties.

I know I’m not the only one who saves the best for last.

When dinnertime rolled around, I was craving carbs + fruit like nobody’s business. Thank God for cereal…Nature’s Path SmartBran, original Puffins and fresh bloobs, all swimming in almond milk. Some might say three bowls of cereal in a day is excessive. I say it’s delicious.

For dessert, I had a bowl of cherries and four squares of Lindt black currant dark chocolate. Obviously J

I’ll be honest: lately, I’ve been feeling a bit unmotivated when it comes to blogging. I still want to blog, but I’ve been having trouble coming up with new content! I feel like I'm in a rut, and my posts are getting repetitive. What do you guys want to see more or less of on the blog? Is there anything you love/hate? Why do you read blogs- the food, the workouts, the people, the pictures? I’m trying to come up with some new ideas, so I’d love everyone’s input!

Thanks so much for all your help loves! I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday J

Just to be gross, have you ever been turned off of a favorite food by getting sick from it? I have a feeling it’s going to be awhile before I brave sashimi again…

In regards to your last question, I can't eat beans on toast, baked pasta, pea soup or blueberry pancakes.

Since you were asking:)

This is going to be really gross to hear, but I got sick after pizza a few months ago and was only turned off to it for a while. At the time I swore I never wanted to SEE pizza again, but I got over it. Although, I haven't eaten from the same place. I couldn't do that. All pizzas taste a little different, you know? And I'm not going near THAT place again. So I guess I did get turned off to a restaurant, but not a food, huh? haha

Ahh, I have been alll about cherries lately! And I'm sorry to hear that you felt so lousy - but I'm glad you're feeling better!

Hey girl! I hope your tums is feeling all better from the raw fish. I'd love to see more workout stuff or maybe training info and playlists? I've been getting into fitness blogs more and less food blogs - the fitness ones keep me motived and give me ideas! I love keeping up to date on what's going on with people too so maybe some cool stuff you've been up to?

Hope you've had a great hump day!

I was also turned off by sashami once. My hubby got so sick from it too. He still can't even look at it.

Aw girl I'm glad you're feeling better :( Watching a favorite food come back up is the worst - I still can't eat curly fries. Or drink Malibu .. or smell coconut-flavored things. Tragedy.

Ugh..sick from food is the worst. It's been a while for me, although I cannot drink tequila anymore. You know what I mean!

I read blogs to get food/snack ideas, and workout tips. I love reading yours, always so healthy with fresh veggies and fruit!

i knew I saw something on twitter about you being sick from the fish! i am so sorry this happened! hopefully you will be able to eat it again! when I puke from something I have a hard time ever eating it again! (thankfully I am TERRIFIED of vomiting and it hardly ever happens!)

I love your blog! the daily eats, your thoughts and you always have great q's!! keep it up girlie!

when I was 7 i threw up on an airplane and I believed it was from a tomato sandwich. I just started eating tomatoes again about 5 years ago!

I'm so sorry you got sick from the fish! Glad to hear you're feeling better, a tummy that feels off is the worst.

I understand what you mean about new blogging ideas. I only think that my blog content is getting stale every day. I have high standards for my blog that I feel I don't meet regularly.

However, I am not nearly as harsh on other blogs. I love getting a peek into someone else's life. It's kind of like reality TV, blogger style. I also love blogs that only talk about interesting, thought provoking topics. However, that doesn't mean I think any less of the daily, more life filled blogs. And of course, those blogs do bring up interesting topics often, though it might not be every post. I think it's cool to read blogs of people our age/20s too because we tend to be more mobile. We're still picking a path and considering where we want to go with our lives, and its fascinating to read the evolution of that.

I hope that helps a little! Have a wonderful evening.

I'm kind of feeling the same way about blogging. I'm hoping inspiration hits again soon!
That's awful about the sashimi! I once threw up after eating spaghetti and then strawberry ice cream. Oh boy. Worst combination EVER to throw up. It was a while before I ate either one of those again either...
Love you!

I rarely comment but I always read!
I would like to see.... outfit of the day or song of the day! Always nice to get some inspiration :)

Aw, sorry about the tum!! I ate a corndog about 12 years ago, and got really sick (throwing up for days) - and I still can't even really look at them. Not a bad thing, though - corndogs are pretty nasty. Hah.

I read blogs for the personality - and yours is great! I love just getting to know the people behind the blog, and you do a great job of doing that. :-)

Ahh I'm sorry you got sick! That really sucks :(

And I know what you mean about being in a blogging rut. I feel like my food isn't interesting and my life is too boring! But I think some of the most interesting blogs are ones where people aren't afraid to touch on a lot of different topics/let their personality through. But with that being said, I like your blog! :D

gahhh thats what happened to me when i overdosed on dairy!

i'm so sad for your seafood mishap! i don't know what i would do without seafood in the summer :(

hope you feel better soon girl!!!! i think those joisey peaches are the perfect medicine!

Chelsea said...

Ahh I'm so sorry about your unpleasant experience with the fish! I had that happen a few times after eating certain seafoods before discovering I'm actually allergic to them. Also I haven't been able to even LOOK at gin after a certain wild week in Cuba.

I love your blog the way it is. Just keep doing what you're doing girl!

PS. I passed on a blogger award to you in my latest post! :)

hahah yes, i admit, i leave the marshmallows for last too! i also do the same with the cookie dough bits in cookie dough icecream! :)
glad your feeling better!! :)

three bowls of cereal is how i roll daily.
i could never get sick of it!!

one thing i got turned off by as well, is sushi.. but who knows.. maybe i shall brave it again soon.. one bad roll, and ick... its like i never want to touch it again

findinghappinessandhealth said...

ah so sorry about the food sickness!!! that is honestly the WORST.
your food looks delicious- love the chocolate & marshmallow oaties are the most delicious cereal. so cute how you saved the marshmallows :)
& i can relate to the lack of motivation- i usually just take some time off til it comes to me again! i am most inspired when i try the least TO be inspired.

Gracie @ Girl Meets Health said...

Ohh gosh, you poor thing. I hate throwing up as it is, so I can't even imagine it being sashimi :/ *gag* So, I guess a sushi date for our next get together is out of the question?? haha

As far as the blog goes, I would love to hear more about your experiences in NYC! Does living there effect your self esteem? What about how people eat/exercise there? etc. etc. I pretty much want to live vicariously through you :D

Healthy. Happy. Well. said...

Oh no! That's horrible that it made you sick! Stay away from the raw seafood!

Amanda @ . seek . said...

Ack! I'm sorry to hear about your date with the porcelain gods, hun :( I have a serious phobia of feeling sick and throwing up... It's honestly been like over 15 years since I've thrown up, and I'd like to make it another 15 at least! I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better, though :) And I completely agree that there's nothing wrong with eating multiple bowls of cereal a day. The past few days have seen me eating multiple bowls of oatmeal, and I. love. it.

I've been feeling the same way when it comes to blogging... been lacking on the inspiration a bit lately. But honestly, I love your blog the way it is. I read blogs mostly for the people because I'm interested in their lives or because I love their style of writing. I know you're feeling like your posts are getting repetitive, but I don't think they are at all. I'm sorry I couldn't give you more advice in which direction you should go in, but that's only because I really enjoy your blog the way it is :)

ah, i'm sorry you got sick!! that always sucks! to answer your gross question, i totally can't eat tempura anymore. porcelain gods saw me for that one and have never had it since, though i had loved it since i can remember!

and i love your blog how it is! i always love seeing all your fresh meals and such!

Meg said...

I can totally relate! I once got sick after eating pumpkin pie and it just isn't the same to me anymore, so sad because pumpkin pie is amazing, as is fish! Ah you poor thing, I'm so glad you're feeling better! Porcelain Gods suck. So bad.

I love your posts, but you need to ask YOURSELF what you WANT to blog about! Blogging should be just as fun for you as it is for the reader!

Does crappy red wine count? ;)

I got sick after eating French Dressing when I was 11yrs old. I still have an aversion to it!

lookthroughmyspecs said...

It took me a long time to eat ravioli again after an especially bad night.

I'm with Meg - blog about what you want to blog about. I want to read stuff that you're passionate about. Maybe it's not a food diary anymore. Maybe something else. But if you like it and can write well, I'll definitely be reading!

"Lu Petit Ecolier dark chocolate cookie" = the summer i was 20 i ate TONS of those. I know it was that summer b/c i was having nookie all day long, taking breaks, coming up for air, and we'd eat those cookies by the carton. way too much info but there ya have it. the memories i have when i see those cookies :)

Ok blogging, content, etc. WHY do you think i changed my blog from so food focused to more life?! Food bores the hell outta me. I jsut cannot write about it before i glaze over. I think you should blog about whatever makes you happy and not let it become a chore. Trust me, I still find it a chore, but it's a better chore. I am so far sucked in i cant get out :) I do love it, really, but yeah girl, i hear ya. More life pics, you pics, just the real deal.

Puking and turned off food? Welcome to food allergies. Welcome to pregnancy. I cannot even tell you the hundreds of foods i cant even stand to see without getting nauseous..shrimp cocktail comes to mind. Same thing! Sea bass. Same thing. I have gotten sooooooo sick from fish before. omg...

oxoxo
hang in there!

That's my favorite breakast! I have dry kashi, a banana, and a protein like 4-5 morning a week! It's easy for me to bring in to work and helps pass time in the morning.
I thought I was getting sick of it...but no haha

Just wanted to say "hi"! since being pregnant, I have not been able to read my favorite food blogs! I can't even watch food network or catch up on my favorite food magazines :(

Glad your feeling better!

Lu Petit Ecolier dark chocolate cookies are the best things on earth!

I read blogs for the people writing them. I like to get to know bloggers so I'm always interested in hearing about their days. For the 2nd question, let's just say Chinese fried rice looks the same going down as it does coming up...hope that wasn't TMI ;) Glad you're feeling better, boo!

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose said...

I get in blogging ruts too--Although Im really happy with my posts lately. I like to read about LIFE and not just food but food draws me in so a little bit of both.

Your internship? Friends reactions to your diet?

I think everyone hits s rut eventually. But I think it's important to be open and honest and then you're happy with it.

ugh, sorry you got sick girlie. THAT is exactly why I am way too chicken to try raw fish, even though I really want to! I'll stick to cooked, thank you.

Who ever said you can't have multiple bowls of cereal?!? Go for it girl. ;)

I'd like to hear more about your workouts and exercise.

I love saving the marshmallows for last :)

Sorry about the tummy troubles! I feel your pain girl. I never eat raw fish because I am afraid I would get sick from it. And cereal is great for when your GI system is recovering; it's a simple, tasty carb. Don't feel bad!

I read blogs because I love the friends I have made. I love learning new things -- for example, one tip I picked up from your blog is using frozen berries in bowls of cereal. It is so delicious and I never would have thought of it! If you want to change things up a bit, you could try doing themed posts; like a post about your favorite desserts or running tips or eating healthy in college. Either way, your blog is fun to read! :)

Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter said...

Summer has been definitely making me less inspired. I feel like when I had time to sit inside and think during the cold winter months I was putting up better content and more ideas.

Justine said...

I haven't ever gotten sick off of food that I can remember (knocks on wood!).

I love your blog and your eats are so creative. Your workouts are also do-able for me personally which is inspiring rather than intimidating. If you feel like you're in a rut, maybe try some new recipes or workouts; otherwise I always love reading your blog. I'm glad your stomach is feeling better. :)

I've had a similar experience with thai food. I couldn't eat papaya for the longest time. I never went back to that restaurant, but could finally incorporate papaya-carrot salads into my life again. Hope you're feeling better!

I am so sorry about the fish loving not ending well! eeek throwing up is not fun! :(
I hope you feel 100% better today! Whenever I get sick from a food I find it soooo difficult to eat that food again. I hope other than the icky fishy tummy youve been feeling great and having a great week.
I heart you girlie!

Hey Gabriela! I like reading blogs for whatever it is that makes YOU tick. Whatever you're most passionate about, because whether it's something completely new to me or something I can relate to, I like reading about the things that people love most. And by the way, thanks for the hummus and tomato sw idea -- I always do cheese & tomato, but never thought of that. Yum!

Mandiee said...

Oooh, I hope you're feeling much better now :)! I read blogs for inspiration. However, it's not always inspiration for what the blogger is writing about, but simply just because I love reading/seeing other people that are passionate about life. I feel like I'm in a food grove (not rut because I think it sounds better hehe), too, but that's alright. As long as you love what you're doing, keep doing it!

Have a lovely day!
