I Am the Granola Gremlin

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!!

Isn't my mom a looker? I won't tell you her age, but I do hope that I look that good in a few decades...thanks for the genes, maman :)

* * *

Unfortunately, I slept pretty badly last night. It was my own mistake! Eating sugar close to bedtime really messes with my REM, and last night I probably ate 3-4 servings of Love Grown Foods apple walnut delight granola right before hitting the pillow. It turns out that I am the granola gremlin...

It was delicious (the walnut chunks were covered in honey and granola chunks and tasted amazing), but I was anxious eating over a huge final paper. I've gotten way better at not stress snacking over the past year, but for some reason last night granola clusters seemed particularly irresistible.

No good, but it happens. I've learned that beating myself up over these things is stupid though, so onwards and upwards. I'm more upset about the sleeplessness!

Despite my granola snackage, I was still ready for breakfast this morning. I'm always hungry the moment I wake up!

Cereal cookie dough: Trader Joe's high fiber cereal mixed with a spoonful of almond butter and a serving of Sun Warrior protein powder, then stirred with a splash of water until it became thick. I added frozen blueberries and almond milk before digging in.

Warning: I've finished all the perishables in my apartment besides two boxes of cereal. These next two days will be heavy on the cereal and purchased foods...

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

How are you celebrating Mother's Day? My family is celebrating back home in PA, but I'll be here, writing that anxious paper. Ugh.

PS- Don't forget to enter my SunWarrior giveaway if you haven't already!!

Faux-Drama Junkie

Confession: I'm mildly addicted to old MTV reality shows.

The City, The Hills, Laguna Beach, Newlyweds (!!)....I've rediscovered all of them. And given the fact that I don't have cable, watching an episode or two (or seven) each night has become my guilty pleasure.

The thing is, though, is that I'm not even that big a reality TV person! The only current shows I enjoy are of the Real Housewives genre, but there's something mesmerizing about watching several seasons of a "real-life" TV show in succession. Style evolutions, roller-coaster relationships, near-incestuous hookup connections...I'm hooked.

Indeed, I caught up on season one of The City while eating dinner tonight:

Guacamole salad! I ate a ton of these last summer, and the warm weather made me crave one today. I mashed a large avocado with salsa, lemon juice and salt & pepper, then served it atop a pile of romaine lettuce, diced tomato and chopped carrots with whole-wheat wrap slices.

This combo is one of my favorite summer meals. Fresh, filling and flavorful. So good! For dessert I had a juicy pear.

And then, at the urging of some Twitter friends, broke into the sweet cranberry pecan flavor of the LoveGrown granola I was sent to review.

It was both a good and bad decision. Good, because it's so freaking delicious. Bad, because I gave myself a stomachache plowing through half the bag. I can't help it- I love granola, and the combination of cranberries and pecans in this stuff are perfection.

Gotta go- MTV.com is calling :) Enjoy your evening!

Now that I've told you my dirty little secret, spill- what's your guilty pleasure? Are you a fan of reality TV? What are your favorite trashy shows?
