Viva La Vida

On a warm summer night at the shore, there is nothing better than driving home with top down, blaring Coldplay and realizing that you are really, truly happy.

This song makes me happy. Or maybe I’m just always happy when I’m listening to it. Regardless, it’s a wonderful feeling, one that brings me back to the summer after I graduated from high school. Of all things, summer always makes me the happiest.

Know what else makes me happy? Meetups with dear bloggie friends, such as the beautiful Gracie of Girl Meets Health.  Especially when fried calamari, sushi and ice cream are involved.

In light of my disastrous last encounter with raw fish, I played it safe and ordered a vegetable roll (cucumber, avocado, lettuce and seaweed salad) and an avocado roll. Gracie ordered salmon sushi and an avocado roll.

For dessert, I finally got what I’ve been dreaming about all summer: a cup of chocolate-vanilla twist, smothered in rainbow sprinkles. For the record, the sprinkles are the best part.

Gracie and I gabbed for nearly two and a half hours (there’s a reason I’ve been nicknamed Gabfest). It’s always fun to meet a blog friend in person, but it’s especially awesome when the person feels like more of an actual friend than an internet acquaintance. The blogworld is a wonderful but complex place, and it’s great to talk to someone who understands it. I can’t wait to see Gracie again at HLS!

Backtracking a bit, for breakfast this morning I went back to the usual with a bowl of Fiber One, banana and almond milk. Overnight oats are tasty, but nothing compares to a classic.

Later in the morning I headed to a 50 minute yoga class at the gym. It’s been ages since I’ve yogaed (not a word), so the stretching/relaxation was definitely needed!

Lunch was a salad beast containing beet greens, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli and falafel balls, all topped with oil in vinegar. I also had some grapes…

And a pumpkin ginger muffin. Because they’re delicious.

Car snack: pink lady and a chocolate brownie Z-Bar. Forgot how tasty these are! A million pistachios were inhaled as well.

I’m off to bed loves!! Gotta rest up for the wedding rehearsal tomorrow. I’m not sure when I’ll be posting next, but have a wonderful weekend!

Do you have an “I love life” song?
What’s your favorite ice cream topping?

Favorite ice cream topping - hot fudge sauce!

Favorite ice cream topping - usually a purist and like no toppings, but if I must, cookie dough and/or whipped cream.

I love randomly driving along or hearing a song and realizing how happy I am and how truly amazing life is. Enjoy your weekend!!

My favorite ice cream topping is also sprinkles! Like little rainbow pieces of candy :-)

I actually love that song too. :)

SO glad you went for that splendiferous looking ice cream cone. I can't remember the last time I had sprinkles...but they really are so much fun. :)

Have an awesome weekend full of lots of love and fun and cake, of course! Tell your broski I say congrats!

Aww sprinkles! It makes me sad because I can't remember the last time I had some :( Chocolate sprinkles, yes, but not the fun rainbow kind. But they're not actually my favorite ice cream topping... chocolate/butterscotch chips are, or maybe warm caramel sauce. Girl, why'd you have to make me think of ice cream at 9 PM =P

both of you two are gorgeous...and i hope that neither of you reached into your wallet and paid for a thing! there should have been men lining up, sending drinks over, and paying for dinners from across the bar. and if there werent, you both need to come to san diego so i can school you :)

feel good song..your opening descriptor was so powerful that it took me back to being your age! and driving blaring music, living life...oh what amazing memories! i dont really have songs like that now..but 10-15 yrs ago, when the world was my big oyster, oh did i ever. I miss those times :) I used to blare songs as recently a 5 yrs ago when out til 5am drinking too :)

glad your mom got a kick out of the comment you showed her on my blog...haha!

hmmmm!! it's been SO long since i've had ice cream! ( sad i know but i dont' have a huge sweet tooth!) but i would say my favorite topping would be chocolate sprinkles or fudge topping... hmmmm. or like salted almonds!!

oh gosh let's see here about the song.. probably something by james taylor OR 'if it makes you happy' by sheryl crow!

Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman said...

I actually don't really like ice cream, but when I was little I'd get vanilla soft serve with sprinkles, lick off all the sprinkles, dump the ice cream, then eat the cone. Weird, I know. I should have just asked for a cone full of sprinkles, but I don't think they do that sort of thing.

Blog friends turned real friends are the best! My favorite ice-cream topper is kiwi. It's like freakin crack!

I LOVE sprinkles on top, I have to agree 100%, the best part!!!!

I hope you have a great day!!!!!!!! Hope your brothers rehearsal dinner is amazing tonight and his wedding is just as amazing tomorrow!

Those sprinkles made me smile. They fulfilled their purpose. Sprinkles do nothing but make a person smile.

You are so lucky you can meet other bloggers! I live in Italy, and everyone I am in contact with lives in the USA. But someday I'll definetely come there.
And what I lovely ice-cream, so colorful!
I prefer caramel for topping, yummy!!!
I have this feeling of "Hey, I am alive, I love my life!" When I listen to "I'm yours".
Have a nice day!

It sounds like you had fun with Gracie! That must be so nice to have made a real-life friend out of an internet friend! :)

My favourite ice cream/fro yo topping is dark chocolate and berries. Total perfection!

I love Coldplay! Viva la Vida is such a great "I love life" song. Some of my other favourites for that are "3x5" by John Mayer and "Summer Skin" by Death Cab for Cutie.

Sprinkles are for sure my favourite topping of all! I prefer the coloured sprinkles to the chocolate ones (gasp!) but I'll take what I can get. :)

favorite I love Life song is probably "cascada everyime we touch" I don't know why but when I hear it I just want to break out dancing hahaaa

I'm a big fan of sprinkles too - the chocolate ones, but only on vanilla soft serve or banana ice cream. (I know, I'm picky.) I also love crushed graham crackers, sliced bananas, coconut, and peanut butter on ice cream.

I find any Michael Bublé song very happy. I can't help but smile when I listen to his music. Especially "Haven't Met You Yet". LOVE that song!! My fave ice cream topping is cookie dough. So, so, so GOOD!!

lisa said...

hmm an " I Love Life" song... I really like the song "unstoppable". I forget who its by, I wanna say Kat DeLuna but not positive. Its not really an "I Love Life" song but its very empowering for me. I always feel refreshed after listening to it!
as for ice cream toppings.. well, not much of an ice cream girl (although when I was younger I would always get strawberry ice cream with peanut butter topping !) but today, for frozen yogurt, I love getting fruit or granola on top. If its chocolate frozen yogurt- bananas alllll the way! Any other flavor, I usually like the tropical fruits, like mango, and I also like strawberries. I love when there is fruit syrups, too! :)

lisa said...

p.s. I so want to have a bloggie meet up with you!! :)

awwwwwww :) i totally have those moments too haha but i can never remember those songs until i'm actually in that moment haha

what a fun bloggie meetup!! seriously swirled soft ice cream is so underrated

I'm with you on the rainbow sprinkles. What is it about them??? I'm pretty sure they're like 90% wax, but somehow they make everything better!

Steph (@MediterraneanMiss) said...

Girl the intro to this post just gave me the opportunity to reflect back on countless summer drives just like that one. I remember once I almost burst into tears in the car because I was so overwhelmingly happy - over nothing in particular!

I love Viva la Vida. I also really love blasting the Eagles, Country, and The Sweetest Thing by U2. There are so many amazing songs out there that get me going :) Kiss From a Rose, by Seal, is one of my all-time favorites.

On ice cream it doesn't get much better than COCONUT, baby. When I was little that insta-hardening chocolate did it for me, too.

You two look so happy, and so stunning! Can't WAIT 'till the HLS.

My favorite toppers are Reeces Pieces, oreos, coconut or fresh fruit :)

Looks like such a fun blogger meet-up!!! XOXOX

REESES PIECES for sure. However, I do love sprinkles ;) I actually love them on donuts too. So jealous of your blogger meet up, if I ever make it to NY i'll be expecting a dinner at one of those cool restaurants you're always going to haha Hope you're having a great day!
